This Shabbos, Chof Kislev marks the first Yahrzeit of Rebbitzen Miriam Gordon, ob’m.
A new Sefer Torah will be dedicated L’ilui Nishmasah on Sunday morning in the Encino, California community where her son Rabbi Yehoshua and Deborah Gordon are Shluchim of the Rebbe for the past more than 40 years.
The Torah is being dedicated by a broad spectrum of the community and it is anticipated that many hundreds will join in the celebration Iy”H on Sunday.
The Yahrzeit will be commemorated on Shabbos the world over by her children and grandchildren in New York, Minnesota, Melbourne, New Orleans, London Birmingham and California and in many other locations.
Rebbitzen Miriam Gordon dedicated her entire life to the Rebbe and to his Shlichus as she an her husband Rabbi Sholom B Gordon, ob’m were the Rebbe’s Shluchim for more than 50 years. Rebbitzen Gordon touched the lives of so many and left more than 200 descendants, many of whom are Shluchim of the Rebbe the world over.
It is interesting to note, as is stated on her Matzevah, that Rebbitzen Miriam Gordon passed away on Chof Kislev, the day in which the sacred Tanya was printed for the first time — a book which she studied assiduously during her lifetime.
I still have such fond memories of both Mrs and Rabbi Gordon. They are two unique people that i and many others were truly blessed to know and have as true chassidishe mentors. May thier children, grandchildren and great grand children continue in their footsteps and be a source of much nachas…..
Chanie, may it bring manifold blessings to your entire family and be a source of consolation and joy to you all. this is truly a special accomplishment in the space of one year. with sincere feelings – from tzfat
