On Monday night, March 17, the night of Shushan Purim, the Land Use Committee of Community Board 9 has invited representatives of the NYC Department of Planning to come to the community and hear input from community members about the future direction of the neighborhood.
This meeting is a preliminary step to gather community input before the Community Board makes a formal request for City Planning to do a study of possible changes in Zoning that the community may need.
At the Community Board Meeting held on February 25 a few homeowners spoke about how the current zoning on many blocks did not permit them to add living space to their homes, such as a larger kitchen, an additional bedroom, or a small apartment for an elderly parent. Other area residents voiced considerable opposition to the suggested changes.
Rabbi Eli Cohen, who presented the proposal of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council at the meeting told COLLive that a strong showing of homeowners in support of zoning changes is essential for the process to keep moving forward.
And how about painting the pumps!!!
Or allow citizens to do it privately! It will save people money and “create” more parking spots!
Man, I hate new york!
Alternate side parking should be changed to once a week just like borough park did.
I am tired of spending my mornings and afternoons moving my car. Aside from the $115 double parking tickets I got for comming 2 min late to move my car back.
No. One is asking to change the look of the outside of the house.
no change in zoning except for the owners personal use with large families.
Please do not change the Zoning in Ch, it will end up looking like the Williamsburg zoo, meaning: ugly 5 story houses in middle of the block, or uneven houses… Etc.
You are dead wrong my friend, if this new zoning gets approved, people will be allowed to build a building in middle of any block thus killing the decent look this neighborhood maintained for years.
lets not kid ourselves.
Why should some streets allow 3 story homes and others only 2?
This is ridiculous especially since many of the apts have 6 or more stories. I have a large family KAH. They aren’t babies and they need ROOM!
I don’t give a hoot anything else.
Each zoning code gives you permission to use a certain percentage of your property as living space. The houses in our neighborhood were not built according to the zoning, which means most of us are legally not allowed to use our basements or other parts of our house as living space. Many people are worried; what will the facade of Crown Heights look like if this is approved? Lets be real, who has money to expand today? Most of us don’t, we just want to legally be able to use every square inch of the house we already have, or… Read more »
CH back yards are ugly because of many styles and some out of proportion structures , but if you keep the front building the same who knows what’s going on in the backyard …. Do what ever you want to do , but keep all historical fronts the same style ….
The zoning changes will not cheap /change any rental /mortgage expenses
can there be a bus ? anyone who lives in a house and wants to have more than 5 kids and guests understands how important this is. at this point its almost impossible to increase the size of your home.
As long as everybody gets affordable housing, it should be fine.
