Six hundred sixty communities worldwide will host an interactive learning program, Sparks of Sinai, on the Ten Commandments and Matan Torah this Shavous night. Orchestrated by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI), Sparks of Sinai comprises two programs to facilitate meaningful conversations and ignite intellectual growth.
Following a classic, shiur-style presentation, The Truth of Sinai is a forty-five-minute class that delves into the historical revelation at Sinai, addressing questions community members may have on the matter. The material, authored by Rabbi Berel Bell and edited by Rabbi Shmuel Super, offers a robust platform to explore why the Rambam was convinced of the Torah’s authenticity and the empirical evidence that backs him up.
Most excitingly, the program’s second part, Sparks of Wisdom: The Ten Commandments, empowers community members to share their reflections on the core values embedded in the Aseres Hadibros through a roundtable discussion format. This feature, created by Rabbi Michoel Lipskier, Rabbi Yaakov Paley, and Rabbi Naftali Silberberg, centers discussion around hard-hitting texts and supplies the facilitating shliach with timeless stories and insights.
Rabbis Motti Klein and Mendel Sirota coordinated the program’s production under the leadership of Rabbi Mordechai Dinerman, co-director of JLI’s curriculum department.
Sparks of Sinai is dedicated to JLI’s Chairman, Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, in honor of his birthday on Rosh Chodesh Sivan, with blessings for many happy and healthy years.
Ahead of Shavous, JLI released the Sparks of Sinai program for all shluchim free of charge. Capitalizing on these resources, shluchim worldwide expect to boost their engagement with a Shavous night learning program that encourages debate, discussion, and interactive conversations.
