By a former student
The first thing that hits you upon arrival is the vast greenery.
In the early 80s when I first arrived in Morristown, I recall a sense of calm, a sense of tranquility.
I remember an emphasis on the Rebbe’s horaos, and an excitement that literally took over the building when a new one was announced.
Farbrengens went to the wee hours of the morning, and the next day our learning would generally be with a renewed sense of urgency and vigor.
There were several programs within the walls of Morristown, and I fondly recall collaborating with older Bochurim with regards to the Rebbe’s mivtzoyim, mainly leading up to Chanukah.
Overall, there was a sense of belonging. Everyone was cared for.
Everyone from the Hanhala all the way to the dorm counselors made it their duty to provide for the bochurim, and as a young teenager I remember feeling like I was in a place where I can really grow, both b’gashmiyus and b’ruchniyus.
Although it’s been over 40 years, I still keep in touch with many of my colleagues and roommates from Morristown, and I make an effort to keep tabs on developments and happenings in or about Tomchei Temimim Morristown.
Recently, I saw the exciting news about a massive expansion.
What was always special about Morristown was their ability to cater to the needs of their students, and to, while remaining deeply rooted in their foundation of Torah and Chassidus, modify their approach to reflect the current needs of the bochurim for over 50 years
As a father, I know the struggles and hardships our boys are facing in 2023.
To hear about the 30,000 square foot expansion truly warms my heart, and I know that the next generation of bochurim will be provided with everything they need to be successful.
A gym, new classrooms and Beis Medrash, all within the vast greenery and tranquility we’ve come to love about Morristown.
I will be purchasing a brick, and I will also be purchasing a brick for a particular staff member who shall remain anonymous, in recognition of a kindness he showed me over 40 years ago.
The continued success of Tomchei Temimim in Morristown, NJ is truly all of our successes, and partnering with them in this incredible undertaking will yield true long-term success for generations to come.
