ad mosai!

Here is a loose translation of part of the letter mentioned by #10:
June 27, 2013 2:36 am

“I took a particular interest in the Articles of Dr. Frankel (Vienna) in it, but to my surprise his method did not spread and was not received as needed”…
This was written in 1969, it took years from then until he gained popularity all over the world.

Here is another letter of the Rebbe:
June 27, 2013 1:52 am

Its towards the end of the page (the Rebbe seems to indicate that if Frankel would lead a different (more “meaningful”) life style his shita would spread more, am I wrong?):

sorry, volume 25. In that letter the Rebbe says that he speculates that the reason why not so many people are ready accept Frankel’s approach is because it demands that the therapist practice what he preaches.

interesting...

kamayim hapin el panim…
freud sees us driven by pleasure, adler by power and frankel by meaning…
is that a reflection of who they were themselves?

Reference to Rebbe's letter:

I Found a letter where the Rebbe speaks at length about him, its in the new book “The Letter & The Spirit” Volume Two, p. 220.
Excerpt: “IT IS ESPECIALLY INTERESTING THAT DR. VIKTOR FRANKEL, PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VIENNA, MAKES PURPOSE IN LIFE THE CORNERSTONE OF HIS PSYCHOANALYTICAL SYSTEM”

Fantastic

It is truly amazing what the My Encounter project is doing. I am in my 50s and the stories that are coming out today are simply incredible! It keeps the Rebbe alive in all of us.

Viktor Frankl has made an enormous contribution to the world of psychotherapy, notwithstanding the fact that the Professor married a Catholic woman, the Rebbe nevertheless support his work and gave him great encouragement at a crucial time in his life.
We can learn much from the Rebbe’s approach to people and the world.
The Rebbe was never myopic in his views

pretty amazing

Logotherapy and Existential Psychology
June 26, 2013 4:38 pm

While Freudian based psycho-therapeutic modalities “animalize” the human, Logotherapy and its kin – Existential Psychology return the dignity, sense of purpose and Mind-over-Emotion hierarchy. This is not unlike the foundational concept found central to Chassidus – “Moiach Shalit al Haleiv”, and as the Alter Rebbe adds – “B’Toldoso”… The human’s mind INHERENTLY dictates to the emotional faculties which “feelings” to maintain, and which to discard.

I humbly presume that it is this philosophy upheld by the Frankl school of thought that the Rebbe found important to promote and support. It separates man from animal.

to number 1 - The Rebbe endorsed it directly too

There are letters of the Rebbe endorsing Victor Frankl’s views explicitly, saying that it is consonant with the Torah (and contrasting it with Freud’s views which are antithetical to the Torah).

WONDERFUL!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING. I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF DR FRANKL’S PHILOSOPHY FOR MANY YEARS AND IT IS GOOD THAT MORE PEOPLE WILL BECOME AWARE OF THIS APPROACH AS A HELP TO EMOTIONAL SUFFERING! ESPECIALLY, TO FEEL SAFE THAT THE REBBE ENDORSED IT INDIRECTLY, IT SEEMS.
I LOOK FORWARD TO READERS’ VIEWS.
