Journalist and podcaster Tani Levitt set out on a mission to report to The Forward website on which shop serves the best kosher pizza in New York City.
One of his stops was at Kingston Pizza on Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights, supervised by the CHK (Badatz Crown Heights). He went there on a Motzoei Shabbos and described the scene as “controlled chaos.”
“Chabad families, teenagers, and yeshiva bochers impatiently waited in line, muttering about being hungry while half a dozen portraits of the Lubavitcher Rebbe oversaw it all from the walls,” he wrote.
The cost per slice was $3.50 and he rated the pizza 3.5 on a 1-5 scale.
“If you’re at Kingston’s on a busy Saturday night, as I was, you will likely be nudged to vacate your booth by a group lingering just over your shoulder, hoping to snag a rare seat,” he wrote.
“But don’t rush — this puffy crust is unique in Brooklyn, and worth savoring as much as the rest of the slice.”
His top 5 picks in New York:
- Bravo Kosher Pizza in Midtown Manhattan and the Financial District
- Benny’s in Flatbush
- Mendelsohn’s in Boro Park
- Pizza Time in Flatbush
- Pizza Plus in the Bronx
Which other pizza in Crown Heights would you recommend he tastes?
Kingston Pizza just raised the prices. Ridiculous!!
the best choice while hanging out at lefferts park
Kingston pizza is the best pizza in America by far
Bruh. You tweakin. Have you ever tried any other pizza???
Benny’s brick oven Pizza was the best pizza in Brooklyn
Is it still 3.50$!!?
I stopped going there.
The fact that he put Bravo on top just shows you how little he actually knows about Pizza.
Clearly you don’t know pizza.
I actually agree that bravo, at least the old location (the new location isn’t as good) was the best kosher pizza in ny
For a slice of pizza it’s highway robbery. In the city a slice is cheaper
509 Ave. P & Ocean Parkway
has the best Pizza 🍕 I’ve ever tasted
They are now offering exclusive discounts for “Chabad Shliach” on Catering Menu
Are the same
Bravo is absolutely not the best kosher pizza in New York City, I’ve had one too many bad slices. If you want good kosher pizza in Manhattan, go to Sabas, go to Jerusalem Cafe (definitely go to Jerusalem Cafe if you haven’t been in a couple years, it’s great) but don’t spend 5.50 on a stale and dry slice of pizza at bravos
My first slice of pizza, probably at 5 years old in 1960, was at Chopsie’s Pizza, on Kingston Avenue between Montgomery St and Empire Blvd. It was $.20/slice.
Inflation is a thing
Nobody even talks about Jerusalem II, Dagan’s, Amnon’s? those were the pizza shops in my day.
Amnon’s is #1. I’ve been eating his pizza for over 50 years Baruch Hashem, till a 180! Amnon is amazing, still working in the store, his pizza is great- plus you get free pickled turnips! His knishes are not much to bring home, cause they’re so delicious you’ll finish them way before you get home!
