Shluchim.Fund is currently running a campaign to ensure that every Shliach’s child has the tools to succeed academically by providing scholarships to Your Torah Tutors. Rochel Dubrawsky from Radlett, England, shared her family’s experiences with YTT.
“We live on shlichus, an hour and a half away from school, and our children do the roundtrip journey daily, leaving home at 7 am and not coming home before 6 pm. We noticed that our son Motty needed some help a few years ago, but we were just trying to survive the crazy schedule, and we felt options were limited.
We didn’t live near any suitable tutors; there just wasn’t time in the day, and obviously, finances were tight, so if I was paying, it had to be for something that would actually work.”
Many other Shluchim are facing the same challenge as the Dubrawskys. Hundreds of young shluchim spend hours getting to and from school every day. Without the educational opportunities a sizable Jewish community offers, few options are available to boost these children’s chinuch.
Rochel continued, “During lockdown, Motty really struggled with online learning, and we soon bowed out of his class’s zoom lessons. But our shlichus had only gotten busier, and finding time to help Motty catch up the skills he needed was tricky.
Then I asked another Shlucha what she had done for her son, and she recommended I speak to Laibel Shemtov for Your Torah Tutors.
From that first conversation, Laibel had a clear path to help Motty catch up on his skills and regain his confidence and enjoyment of learning. The online assessment went smoothly, and Motty was quickly matched up with Mendy, a YTT trained tutor, and they got along great.
Across the world and different time zones, they consistently met on Zoom, and Motty’s vocabulary has grown by leaps and bounds. When school reopened, and Motty went back to long days and long travel times, I was worried that he would protest doing more learning, but he hasn’t complained once. He runs into the house and jumps right on, knowing that this is really helping him and building his skills and confidence.
Knowing that our son is learning with a trusted chassidishe yungerman and seeing the clear progress he has made and anticipating even more improvement is incredible. In addition, the fact that our physical location is not an obstacle at all to enable our son to reach his full potential means that joining Your Torah Tutors has been one of the best things we can do for our Motty.”
Hundreds of children like Motty are missing crucial skills necessary to thrive in Mesivta, Yeshiva, High School, Seminary, and beyond.
