Rioters went on a rampage in Thailand in recent weeks, burning buildings, smashing shop windows and attacking telephone booths all over the city center.
The charred remains of more than 30 buildings dominate the skyline now, as clouds of thick black smoke still billow into the air, from smouldering piles of rubber tires the protesters used as barricades to stop the soldiers pressing forward.
Nine Chabad Shluchim operate in the country, some were trapped in their homes during the violence. All have since resumed their activities.
At least 83 people have been killed and another 1,800 wounded since anti-government Red Shirts began their demonstrations in March.
