The Shluchos who attended the inaugural luncheon of the Kinus Hashluchos this past Thursday were treated to a performance by a group of students from Tambourines Academy.
Tambourines Academy for the Performing Arts gives Crown Heights girls in grades 1-12 the opportunity to learn how to express themselves through song and dance in a Chassidishe environment with professional teachers.
It was started this year by Lea Shemtov who had the experience as a shlucha growing up in Montevideo, Uruguay, and saw the need when she came to learn and eventually teach in Bais Rivkah.
The theme of the song and dance was “Yes, I believe”, describing how through our actions and belief, we will bring Moshiach. Just like Miriam and the women of her generation prepared tambourines as an expression of their faith in GeuLas Mitzrayim, so too, will we bring Moshiach even sooner through our Emunah and Bitachon in Geulah.
After weeks of practicing the song and accompanying choreography in the Tambourines studio, under the professional guidance of their experienced teachers, Chaviva Tarlow and Leslie Class, the girls were excited to perform for their first time.
The response from the crowd was very enthusiastic.
“It was so graceful and beautiful. I’m so happy that there’s a space in Crown Heights where girls can express themselves in this way. Seeing them perform made me tear up. Thank you for giving them this opportunity!”
The ”Tambourine Girls” felt privileged to have had such a special opportunity, to open the Kinus and welcome the shluchos in such a joyous and inspiring way. “Tambourines is a great environment where I meet girls my age who I share a common interest with. Performing for the Kinus was so much fun! Thank you!” said Bassie Zarchi, Grade 7, from Bais Rivkah.
They, together with other Tambourine groups, look forward to continue rehearsing and preparing for future performances. Their upcoming performance will take place at the JGU event on March 7th in the JCM.
