Mrs. Sylvia (Sarah) Silvers, a resident of Flatbush, Brooklyn, passed away on Monday, 15 Iyar, 5775.
She was 96.
She was born in Zyrardow, a town in central Poland, which was captured by the Nazis in 1939 and transported its Jews into the Warsaw ghetto. Silvers volunteered for many years in displaced persons (DP) camps in Germany after World War II.
Immigrating to the United States, she built her home in Bensonhurst and was a dedicated teacher at the Bais Yaakov Academy for girls in Brooklyn. She later lived in Flatbush.
“She embodied the saying of “Tracht Gut Vet Zein Gut” and was always optimistic and giving,” a family member said. “She always putting others before herself.”
She is survived by her children Shira Frank, Flatbush, NY; Dovid Silvers, Manhattan, NY; and Moshe Silvers, San Francisco, CA; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many of whom serve as Shluchim.
She was predeceased by her husband R’ Ben (Dov Ber) Silvers in 2000.
The Levaya will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, at Shomrei Hadas Chapels in Boro Park at 1pm.
Shiva will be at 799 East 8th St, Flatbush N.Y.

I remember Sylvia Silvers from my Flatbush years. She was a lovely lady, so loving, so giving, always with a smile on her face and a song in her heart, as reflected in her daughter, Shira Li’s, name.
May her children and extended family be comforted over this loss among the mourners of Tzion and Yerushalayim.
