NYPD officials have been put on alert Monday as fears grew over two mysterious men of Arab origin seen near 770 Eastern Parkway.
Attention increasingly focused on one of the Muslim men who was said to have carried a suitcase into Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights.
A Lubavitch bochur said he saw a man walking into the main men’s shul with a bag at around 11pm and then leaving the premises empty-handed.
He immediately called the police and the Shmira and Shomrim patrols.
As panic spread in the main shul, populated these days with many Israeli guests, a frantic search began in the area.
But the two were nowhere to be found.
“We could not find proper witnesses to take any sort of further action,” Community Affairs officer Vinnie Martinos told COLlive.com.
Asked what security measures are applied to 770, officer Martinos answered that it depends on the building’s management and the inhabitants.
“We have no way of stopping people for questioning, so we rely on the fact that people know each other and would recognize a stranger.”
