The NYPD has arrested a suspect in the beating of Yossy Herskop, a Crown Heights resident and community activist who was attacked in his car 2 weeks ago.
A suspect was arrested by NYPD detectives at approximately 9 pm on Thursday at the suspect’s home in Brooklyn, a police source told COLlive.
The victim, Yossy Hershkop, a community activist in Crown Heights, was beaten after he got into an altercation with 3 men after his car hit theirs while he was attempting to park his car on Montgomery Street in Crown Heights.
The car’s occupants then followed him for another block, and demanded payment for what they claimed was damage to their vehicle.
Hershkop was then beaten by the suspects who hit and injured him in the face, all while his 5-year-old son was in the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital by Hatzalah for treatment.
On Wednesday, Hershkop had expressed his frustration that there had been no arrests in the case.
“I was attacked 2 weeks ago. No arrests have been made, despite the assailants’ vehicle having been seen all over the neighborhood. My son still has a lot of trauma from the incident & we now Uber instead of walk whenever we need to go out. How many others live in fear in NYC?!” he Tweeted.

Our Volunteers responded to a brutal assault by a few thugs. Despite a fast response the victim was in shock and wasn’t able to give details. Thank you to Hatzalah and @NYPD71Pct for responding. If you see this silver sedan please call 911 and Shomrim . #YourCityYourCall pic.twitter.com/fN0HBOhyV9

Glad he was identified and arrested. How about sharing his picture, name and address?
I’d bet that this isn’t his first time encountering the law, either.
This stuff doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
Would love to be wrong but guessing he has numerous “priors.”
Relieved that it’s not quite as bad here as it seems- though most likely he is already back on the streets. May he be punished to the fullest extent of the law, kept where he can no longer be a threat to the law abiding public, and where he will not see the light of day for a very long time.
Low standards!
“It’s not so bad… they gang up and beat the Jew but DON’T WORRY–THE POLICE MADE AN ARREST!”
How about violent people are kept in check in the first place?
Didn’t the Community Activists and Community Leaders support the current lawless, liberal, crime -loving regime, as well as the ones prior to them?
If the Community Leaders and Community Activists would speak up AGAINST the status quo maybe it would help.
Smiling for photos while shaking hands and fressing food doesn’t help any when thugs are free to beat people in the streets.
Have some self respect–and respect for Hashem–and stop groveling. These politicians are NOT on our side and they DO NOT have our best interests in mind.
A republican mayor in NYC isn’t going to happen any time soon. Your best bet is to support the democratic candidate that most closely aligns with your morals. Adams is a former cop who isn’t happy with how soft NYC currently is on crime. It’s a step in the right direction.
If I do recall correctly, our alleged community representatives with the governor who refuses to do anything regarding the ridiculous bail laws
For a former cop, he’s just as soft on crime as his predecessors. It’s all about catering to their radical base.
I’m so sick and tired of hearing these violent animals viciously assaulting people and getting away with it. community leaders and especially the mayor of NYC are a complete joke and failure all they do is talk with ZERO action. these criminals MUST be punished for their crimes . this is no insignificant trivial matter to lake lightly. each if those wild thugs deserve 5 years behind bars maybe then they as well as other black people with a history of vielent behavior towards Jewish people will learn there lesson not to dare assault a Jewish person in this community… Read more »
Stop voting for dems haven’t you learn anything yet ?
Monetary damages via civil lawsuit may be the only way to get a semblance of justice. Now we know, NEVER get out of car or make a peaceful approach, when a goy(im) are angry. So sorry.
At this point I would like to recommend that people think about things they can do to assist the family. One thing that may be helpful is to set up an account on at a car service to assist them in getting through this difficult time. Their car was severely damaged and they will need the funds to transport their child to camp/school and also for doctors appointments which he may need. We all know were Yossi works and he has done a lot for community members on a day to day basis. The least we can do is try… Read more »
Hopefully they are not free on the streets after the arrest
