Tens of thousands of all ages, gathered at the 21st Annual Israel Day Concert in Central Park, for the Carl Freyer z”l Tribute, Dr. Manfred Lehmann Memorial event, at Central Park’s SummerStage, on Sunday, June 1st – the 47th anniversary of the miracle of the Six-Day War and the Re-unification of Jerusalem.
Dr. Joseph and Karen Frager, long-time Organizers, and Dr. Paul and Drora Brody, Chairpersons, for the past 9 years, reiterated the concert’s themes: Jerusalem united forever, never to be divided again, no further concessions of any part of the Land of Israel (Yisrael HaShleima), stopping Iran now, and countering the BDS movement.
Inspiring speakers included local luminaries such as Rabbi David Algaze of Havurat Yisrael in Forest Hills; ZOA president Mort Klein; and Helen Freedman, executive director of Americans For a Safe Israel (AFSI).
New York City Councilman Rory Lancman and State Assemblyman David Weprin presented official Proclamations to Dr. Frager and to Dr. Brody, along with their respective spouses, for all their effort regarding the Israel Day Concert, over many years.
Among the day’s highlights were speeches by Israel Deputy Defense Minister MK Danny Danon, former UN Ambassador John Bolton, and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, a front-runner for the Republican Party, for US President in 2016. Sen. Cruz was introduced by his Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz.
Jewish music stars Gad Elbaz, Lipa, Benny Friedman, Edon, Shloime Dachs, Ari Lesser, Nachas, Elron Zabatani, accompanied by Israeli pianist extraordinaire Shlomi Aharoni, Chazanim Meir Goldberg, Yaakov Rostein and Chaim Dovid Berson, Shabi Soffer, Chaim Kiss, Shlomo Swad, Broadway Youth Ensemble, Born dancers, Simcha Squad and the Sharey Arazim Marching Band, performed at the park’s Summerstage venue, to thousands of cheering fans, under the musical direction of Zvika Bornstein, accompanied by the fabulous Shloime Dachs Orchestra.
The concert highlight was the debut of a new song “United”, written by the concert’s musical director Zvika Bornstein. The song was filmed at the concert for the upcoming music video by producer Danny Finkelman.
