An official postage stamp honoring the Alter Rebbe – Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, has just been released by the Israeli Postal Agency.
The stamp, which is legal tender for use in Israel, was arranged by the Israel Post Office, marking 200 years since the passing of the Alter Rebbe.
The stamp features a drawing of the Tanya, and a page of stamps contains the message of Moshiach’s arrival to the Ba’al Shem Tov: “When your wellsprings will spread forth.”
The Alter Rebbe is also known as “Admor HaZaken” and is author of many famed important Jewish works, including the Tanya and Shulchan Aruch HaRav.
Sam Malamud, president of the Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corporation, coordinated the printing of the new stamp along with the Israel Postal Agency.
“The writings of the Alter Rebbe changed the way in which hundreds of thousands of people around the world perceived life after studying the Tanya,” Malamud said.
“We are proud to be a part of the release of this stamp which portrays the fulfillment of the Baal Shem Tov’s vision of bringing forth Moshiach by spreading the inner wellsprings of the Torah, which include a deep knowledge of the human soul and discovery of the Creator’s reality.”
The “first day” stamping was done in the Kfar Chabad postal office, and will be available in all Israeli post offices. The stamp will go into circulation this week, and will be featured on millions of peices of mail in Israel and around the world.
Following the motto “When the wellsprings of your teachings spread outward,” an effort to ensure that the stamp is made available to the widest audience, the Government has agreed to reduce the stamp’s face value, making the collection very affordable for all.
The price of a complete sheet of 10 stamps is being offered by the post office for $5.50 US. A special reduced price is being offered to all Shluchim as well.
