Around 6 years ago, I was farbrenging in 770 with my former Mashpia. It was Motzoei Shabbos Gimmel Tammuz 5778 (תשע”ח). A nice frum yid sat down by the farbrengen and joined the conversation.
At one point, he asked, “How many years ago was Gimmel Tammuz?”
“24 years ago,” I answered.
“So Chabad must be preparing something big for next year – 25 years, no?” he asked.
My friends, my Mashpia and I all looked at each other baffled and shocked. The thought of 25 years not seeing the Rebbe didn’t cross anyone’s mind for a second.
And here we are, still stuck in the golus. It’s been almost 30 years.
When the October 7 war in Eretz Yisroel began, Yidden all around the world took upon themselves extraordinary hachlatos: Tehillim, Tefillin, Torah, Neshek, Mivtzoim and so on… But now, more than 6 months into this terrible war, we are getting used to and numb to the situation. It doesn’t bother us constantly anymore. If, on October 8th, I had told you this would happen, you wouldn’t even believe it.
The problem didn’t start this year, or 6 years ago. In fact, for 44 years, the Rebbe instilled in us an urgency. An urgency to bring Moshiach. An urgency that there is no time to waste. An urgency that “shechintah b’galusa.” An urgency that we can’t feel comfortable in Galus. An urgency to reach every yid.
It is with this urgency that the Rebbe told us on that fateful night some 33 years ago, “טוט אלץ וואס איר קענט און זען אראפבריינגען משיח דא למטה.”
It is with this urgency that the Rebbe told us (on Purim 5723): “ר אויבערשטער קאן שוין ניט פארטראגן דעם ליל הגלות און קלאפט ביי יעדער אידן אויפן טיר און בעט זעך מערניט אז “פתחי לי” .. מ’דארף ניט ווארפן ווענט און האקן טירן ס’איז גענוג “פתחי לי כחודו של מחט”. און דעמאלט זאגט דער אויבערשטער “כי קרובה ישועתי לבוא.”
The Rebbe conducted his daily life with this urgency and expects us to follow suit.
Now, almost 30 years later, we must ask ourselves: where is that sense of urgency?
The urgency that things are not the way they should be, the urgency that this is an abnormal time and something abnormal must be done, the urgency that we have to bring Moshiach and that no else will do it for us.
It starts by understanding who the Rebbe is and his love for us. By understanding that “hu bachayim” in a very real way. But must not stop there. It’s time to realize that it’s already 29 years and we still haven’t brought Moshiach!
Perhaps, at least for these next two months until Gimmel Tammuz, we can live with such a mindset—to actually be the Rebbe’s Chassidim not only in heart but also in our daily lives.
Perhaps if we realize the responsibility that lays upon our shoulders and make this our personal business, we will stop getting so caught up with our own petty issues (physical or spiritual) because we will realize that there is a much bigger picture to worry about besides our own personal needs and desires.
And surely, if we commit our lives to this responsibility and open a “פתח כחודו של מחט”, then we are promised that “קרובה ישועתי לבוא,” and even before Gimmel Tammuz we will be able to tell the Rebbe openly “עשינו שליחותך…” this will be the day we will hear the Rebbe say “ראו גידולים שגדלתי.”
Just to finish off, with the Sicha of Purim 5747:
“יעדער איד זאל וויסן אז דורך זיין איין און איינציקער מעשה ..דיבור און ..מחשבה.. איז דא דער פסק דין אז “מביא ישועה והצלה לעולם”..איז א דבר ברור אז די איין און איינציקע זאך וואס מ’דארף משלים זיין אז יעדער איד זאל וויסן אז דאס איז זיין ענין הפרטי”
“Every Jew must know that by his single deed, and by his single word, or by his single thought…his every action can truly bring redemption to the entire world!”
For this well needed reminder
May we all increase in our own personal shlichus and be together with the Rebbe physically, ending this Golus NOW!!
here’s what you should do. it’s something big
find every jew who is actually jew, who is in a college, university, or public school, and convince them to drop out or switch to yeshiva immediately.
This is priority.
You should also find people who will do this for the younger schools to, kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school. All public schools. Just make sure the person is actually a jew, first.
So true. דברים היוצאים מהלב….
וכן הם יראו ובטח הם יעשו ופועל פעולותינו
i remember the 1st time there with family on 3 tammuz, and chassidim were saying hopefully next year there will be a better seder. i told my kids right then and there, it would be the last time i will ever be there on 3 tammuz. can you imagine elterer chassidim worries were about the seder. we belong with our Rebbe in 770 as Moshiach. That’s the Rebbe’s desire
there should be proper Tznius & Kohanim guidelines, with full separation between men and woman, that is keeping THOUSAND’S of our fellow Yidden in boro Park Williamsburg etc from coming to the Rebbe
let’s not go in to the argument if we ourselves need or need to promote such stuff, one thing is sure, it’s being merachak a lot of people from the rebbe (and it is basic shulchan aruch)
You’re so right!
Absolutely and totally agree with you!!
Kivrei Tzadikim is a huge thing now but no where else is it like by the Ohel. Let’s have separate paths!!!
You might not be able to change this. What you CAN do is this: 1) Believe that you – yes you – can impact the entire Williamsburg. Bishvili nivra haolam. (Internalize the TORAH perspective) 2) Daven that the internalizing of the above-mentioned Torah should have a positive and transformative affect on you and your surroundings (the AVODAH aspect) 3) Now you are fully armed with the tools to make that impact. Find ONE person in Williamsburg that you can befriend and eventually bring to the Ohel. (The GEMILUS CHASADIM aspect) Then Repeat. Your Torah, Avodah and Gemilus Chasadim cycle will… Read more »
what is a kohanim guideline?
Great hisorerus. If we analyze the rebbe’s style in his farbrengens, we see a surprising theme. Very little of the farbrengen is dedicated to maase bepoel. Very little. In a 10 page sicha, the last page will speak about the horaa. It seems that the Rebbes acts in a certain way because he THINKS a certain way. Automatically. That thinking takes up 90 percent of his being. That leads to action without skipping a beat when it comes to that. Gadol talmud shemevi lidey maase. Perhaps instead of FOCUSING 90 percent on doing and 10 percent on how we think… Read more »
Didn’t you believe that Moshiach is coming NOW! If so, writing the article is a waste of time.
Why did you go to work this morning? If Moshiach is coming NOW all your problems are solved.
There is a sicha on this very topic. I hope someone else here can cite the source and you can take a look.
The perspective that moshiach is coming now doesn’t deter us from living our lives now in galus. That wouldn’t be a moshiach-is-reality life, that would be a delusional one.
If someone is going to criticize the writer of the article, please have the guts to write your full name.
Sincerely,
( not the writer of the article)
84 years since YUD SHVAT. and 3500 since the passing of Moshe Rebainu
It’s 3296 years since the passing of Moshe Rabbeinu.
The Rebbe once said by a farbrengen (in lamed gimmel) that he didn’t say the accurate amount of years since Matan Torah at the last farbrengen – and no one corrected him!
Not 84
i think that we ought to realize that moshiach is very near. every action that we do can impact the world.
i wish we realize our ability’s, and cash in on our potential.
I hope something big is happening… Moshaich!
An achdus event like never before must happen
Our Rebbe spelled out all the preparations that need to be done for a Yom Hilula.
Been there. Tried that. Anything else ??
