A winter storm warning is in effect for parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, with forecasters predicting 6 to 12 inches of snow or more for some spots and punishing wind gusts as high as 50 mph, capable of toppling power lines and tree limbs.
The National Weather Service said early Wednesday that blizzard-like conditions are possible in Suffolk County and parts of southern Connecticut between 1 a.m. Thursday and early Friday. Forecasters predict 5 to 10 inches for those spots, as well as for New Jersey’s Ocean County, with a foot or more possible in isolated locations. Wind gusts of 45 to 50 mph will cause drifting and poor visibility.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the New York City area from Thursday 1:00 AM until 1:00 am on Friday.
3-6 inches of snow is likely, with higher amounts possible, and wind gusts of 35-45 mph.
Roads may be dangerous, especially during Thursday morning’s commute. Strong winds may cause power outages and areas of blowing snow.
