Slovakian Ambassador to the United Nations, Michal Mlynar visited Crown Heights Tuesday night at the invitation of Rabbi Chanina Sperlin.
At a small reception at the Sperlin home, the Ambassador was joined by Rabbi Eli Cohen of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, Yaakov Flitchkin, businessman and community activist, Eli Slavin from the office of Congresswoman Yvette Clark, Colonel Rabbi Jacob Goldstein, Shimon Herz, Gil Cygler of AJC, Yoel Lefkowitz, Yanki Itzkowits, Shomrim coordinator in Williamsburg, and Jacob Kornbluh, Senior Political correspondent for The Forward.
Rabbi Sperlin thanked the Ambassador for Slovakia’s close ties to Israel, and particularly for being one of the first countries to move their embassy to Jerusalem.
The Ambassador mentioned that his country recently took further steps to deepen their ties to Israel.
The Ambassador spoke warmly of the rich history of his country’s Jewish community, highlighting the Chasam Sofer.
He also was interested to hear of the Lubavitch movement’s experience with Communism, which he compared with the way that his people had been invaded by the Communists.
The group walked over to 770 Eastern Parkway to visit the central Lubavitch shul where the Ambassador learned of the Rebbe’s statements about the United Nations and the duty to stand up for light in the face of darkness.
Hope you enjoyed
There’s no mention of the amazing things done by Rabbi Baruch Myers & Rabbi Zev Stiefel on behalf of the Slovak Jewish community? Perhaps the Ambassador can use his influence to facilitate their work.
