For a month now, the JMS (Journey of Mind and Soul; the Insitute of Advanced Judaic Study for Women) has been providing rigorous, dynamic and out-of-the-box learning opportunities for women in Crown Heights. This Sunday, Rabbi Eli Silberstein will re-examine the Rebbe’s approach to Torah study in this vein in two consecutive lectures.
Much is known, discussed and publicized about the Rebbe’s leadership and teachings, but what about the Rebbe’s innovative approach to Torah itself? In these lectures, entitled “Uniting Inner and Outer: the Rebbe’s Unique Approach to Limud Torah,” Rabbi Silberstein will demonstrate how the Rebbe brings together what seem like parallel or even divergent ways of approaching Torah study. In particular, the two languages of Nigleh and Nistar – Torah’s inner and outer dimensions – become one in the Rebbe’s teachings.
Rabbi Silberstien, Shliach at Cornell University in Ithaca NY, lectures widely on topics connected to mysticism and Jewish law. He is known for his deep and analytical teaching style and has authored several courses for JLI.
Rabbi Silberstien will be teaching from 6:30 – 7:40 and from 7:50 – 9:00 pm, at “the Bayit,” 556 Crown St. Each class will cover another portion of his topic. Admission is thirteen dollars per class and twenty three dollars for the evening.
Other JMS courses – covering such topics as Jewish theology, the background of Halacha, Lubavitch identity and more – will continue to take place throughout the week, and upcoming guest speakers include Dr. Alex Poltorak and Mrs. Malka Touger.
