To the best of our knowledge, what follows is the only public reference the Rebbe ever made to the fact that he did not have (physical) children.
These extraordinary words were said at the Farbrengen of 13 Nissan 5726:
“The Tzemach Tzedek travelled to Petersburg to participate in the infamous rabbinic gathering convened by the Russian government. In the presence of all the assembled he forcefully opposed the representative of the Crown in a manner that constituted outright rebellion.
“Upon his return home he was asked by a certain prominent individual: How could he have placed himself in mortal danger? Adding, even if the Rebbe did not think of his own welfare, he should have nonetheless been concerned with the welfare of Chassidim and Klal Yisroel!
“The Tzemach Tzedek responded with two answers: He has his sons. And secondly, the brotherly love of Chassidim will see them through till Moshiach.
“Now with respect to us, inasmuch as there are no children… the second option is left for us, and Chassidim therefore will unite and break through all the barriers of the doubled and redoubled darkness of golus.”
—————————————————————
A group of Anash – rabbis, Shluchim and laymen – has joined together in an effort to re-awaken this brotherly love, unique to the family of Chassidim.
This love lies at the core of who we are as the Rebbe’s chassidim and it transcends the inevitable differences in our perspective and practice.
We realize that this is a lofty goal. Yet there is no doubt that when all of us, as one, determinedly commit ourselves to the task — b’ezras hashem and with our Rebbe’s koichos and brocho — we will prevail.
The first phase of this campaign will start immediately, over the next four weeks as a Hachono to Gimmel Tammuz.
It will involve in-depth study and Shiurim on the topic of Ahavas-Achim followed by community Chassidishe Farbrengens, to internalize and actualize that which was learned.
There will be weekly Shiurim for both men and women available online, for all four weeks, (this week, Rabbi Yossi Jacobson for men and Rabbi Manis Friedman for women), as well as local Shiurim in each community.
The Shabbos before Gimmel Tammuz, Shabbos Parshas Korach, will be dedicated to special Farbrengens with a guest Mashpia in each of the participating communities.
Please join in this global family effort to restore the brotherly love of Chassidim to the way it was meant to be.
Let us hope and pray that in merit of these efforts of thousands of Chassidim from tens of communities, we will be Zocheh, long before Gimmel Tammuz, to the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu.
A new website will be updated regularly: FamilyofChassidim.com

When I heard (elsewhere) of this group, I wondered if it was a GENUINE attempt at Achdus between so-called ‘Meshichists’ and those of different opinions – as fundamentally, this seems to be, or seems to feed, the most contentious disagreement amongst ANaS”h. Looking at the above list, one struggles to find any known representatives of Meshichists. Which leads me to fully agree with comment #11 that we need equal representation of Meshichists, the likes of R’ Shlomo Majesky, etc. – and even more so, to agree with #14, that an atempt at Achdus of the Rebbe’s Chassidim on Moshiach can… Read more »
An impressive group of Lubavitchers gather to finaly try to bring some old Chasidic love amongst us, and all we can do is criticize them? Think of the Rebbe for a moment and see if you are not starting up with him with your comments. Let’s give this a chance and participate in honor of 3 Tamuz. I do not know all the people in this group but that makes it more meaningful to me, we are all Chassidim of the same Rebbe. I went into the webpage and just the name inspired me. Hatzlocho Rabba, you have me as… Read more »
Why was i not asked to be on this committee??
I am disheveled by this insult and refuse to be a part of it.
I am breaking away for form a breakaway achdus committee, please email if you were also disheveled and want to join my breakaway.

Moshiach now!
Any attempt to bring Anash together is an excellent development.
They will always be shortcomings in any undertaking.
Only G-d is perfect.
Let us see the good in each and every Chosid.
this is the spirit!
The picture you have featured is a masterpiece. Kudos to the photographer-Hey what the heck! The world needs a little more love!
This can only be done if we all learn again & again the Sichos of “Nun Aleph” & ” Nun Bais”
I know it sounds bad but there will never be one gimmel tammuz farbrengen. it is the wish of most chassidism to have one farbrengen with everyone there. but i dont think this article will make it happen. we need moshiach!
Do u guys even know what anash means?
If the Achdus is between a Lubavitcher in Monsey to a Lubavitcher in Crown Heights, then fine. But if the committee is seeking to bring a “Meshichist” and “non Meshichist” together (for a learning session) then this would be the right way to go about it. A first step would be to bring in to the committee at least 2 or 3 Meshichist Mashpiyim/Rabbonim (who are calm and collective people), for example: 1) Rabbi Shloma Majesky 2) Rabbi Levi Garelik 3) Rabbi Heshel Greenberg Second step would be to for a number of virulent board members to resign (I won’t… Read more »
i want to go on shlichus, when i do iy”h, will i no longer be a member of Anash?
Perhaps an offer should be extended to those with very different views about what the Rebbe wants from his Chassidim today to join in this effort. Within Crown Heights alone there are a multitude of views and attitudes that must be engaged to make this a success. I am not C”V being critical of this effort (although I was skeptical when I first heard about it a few weeks ago). Personally, I have deep respect and admiration for Rabbi Jacobson, but that sentiment is not felt across the board in Crown Heights. THere are other revered Rabbonim and Mashpiim who… Read more »
unless they are willing to challenge “leadership” NOTHING will happen meaningful. AND it seems to me all the guys on the VAAD are boys of the same club sounds like a good crack at achdus. GOOD LUCK.
This is very inspiring and definitely a positive step. What will make it real is action. Just one united farbrengen will prove that something good is really happening. What abaout one Gimmel Tamuz Farbrengen this year.? Hamasah hu Haikor
On Yagdil Torah’s website it says that they will be coordinating the Peulos in CH for this project.
I trust Yagdil Torah will do well with this as they have been very good at organizing positive programming in CH.
Lets wait and see.

If you will learn it again and again and again, it will definitely have an influence on you till you will also practice it. in fact try learning these Maamorim (Hecholtzu etc..) 10 times…, (you will see the great result ) you will not recognize yourself…
then those shluchim who on this panel who do not boast an anash community should please leave and take care of their mosdos
We want Moshiach now
What’s the purpose of these shiurim? How will they change anything, either here in CH or worldwide? What is this committee’s objective? Yes, I read the article, but I still don’t see how things will change. We KNOW Ahavas Yisrael is one of the core concepts of not just Chassidus, but “Judaism” in general. How will learning about it make people practice it? How will it stop the hate & violence?
I’d appreciate an answer from one or more of the signatories.
Thank you.
Sounds good but after seeing what happened at the great lag b’omer parade i have a feeling not all groups in CH will accept them.
