Dear Readers,
For over a decade, our mission at COLlive.com has been to help provide the global Chabad community with news and information about events of interest from Crown Heights to Jerusalem to Moscow and everywhere in between.
We have reported on family occasions, joyous, momentous and even unfortunately tragic. We have told stories, both local and global, that we felt would be of interest to our community across the world.
We have always strived to be as inclusive as possible and to be a platform where members of Anash – the global Chabad community – feel represented and reflected.
In recent weeks, a MicDrop event was scheduled to take place in New York. I felt compelled to tell my own story and overcome my personal impediment: stage fright.
When Crown Heights Rabbonim put out a statement of their opposition to MicDrop, I was caught up in my own thoughts and ideas to the extent that I failed to pause and contemplate my actions.
I should have followed their clear directive. I regret that I personally did not do that, and that I published their letter in a disrespectful manner.
I publicly apologize here, in addition to having done so in private conversations with the Rabbonim in which I expressed the same.
I also deeply regret the readers’ comments about their letter which were disrespectful to the Rabbonim and were not appropriately removed from the COLlive pages.
This is not who COLlive is, nor what it really should be.
We at COLlive have regularly been in contact with a number of Rabbonim and taken to heart their advice and counsel when matters of controversy arose. We have sought and followed Rabbinical guidance on a variety of issues throughout the years. But we need to do more.
In light of the above, COLlive is currently working with a group of Rabbonim to formulate clearer agreed upon policies, procedures and guidelines, reflective of the values and principles taught us by our Rebbe.
We are actively forming a Rabbinical Editorial Committee (“Vaad”) to guide us so that our coverage will always be in accordance with halacha and the spirit of Chassidus.
I look forward to continuing to publish good news and hopefully only good news, and sharing the successes and triumphs of members of the Chabad community and institutions around the world.
Hopefully, COLlive will be the first to report the best possible news, the announcement of the Geulah Ha’amitis Vehashleima speedily in our days.
Sincerely,
Mica Soffer
Editor and Publisher of COLlive.com
Mica you are a personal friend but more than that I am a great admirer of your honesty and your intelligence. I think that from all people who would run a website that represents Chabad- you are the most qualified. Your dignity and your integrity has never been in question. As a community we are lucky to have you as the person behind collive. I have personally seen many occasions where you behaved in a way that no other ‘journalist ‘ would- Putting your values and friendship above a ‘scoop’ and maintaining the kedusha of your site. May Hashem reward… Read more »
this letter is so well written – and the words are carefully counted – on who writes so well need not worry about public speaking
it would be nice to see similar regret from others when they stray
Yasher Koach to you and all at COL for keeping us all informed –
We have BH Rabbi Krinsky amongst, tzu Lange gezunte yorin.
He is the only person the Rebbe put in charge of Chabad’s PR. If COL is a Chabad sure, then he should be consulted as what is ok and what is not.
If COL is not a official Chabad site, he should still be consulted, as it reports on Chabad related news and he would be the correct arbiter in these matters. IMHO.
Mica – you are a true example and inspiration with your sincere and humble, yet brave words… Drop by drop they penetrate even the hardest stone… Specifically this week of Purim Katan your response so honors and lives up to the ways of Queen Esther, who with her royal modesty and quiet dignity followed the advice of Mordechai HaTzaddik – (no matter how difficult), to influence, to inspire, and to intervene on behalf of her people… And B’Hashgacha Pratis as even the name COL-LIVE hints – והחי יתן אל ליבו May you be blessed to convey far and wide –… Read more »
You put it very well. The apology is impressive & seems heartfelt & I respect Mrs. Sofer for her humility.
Having said that, the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. If you represent yourself as CHABAD on line, you have to maintain higher ethical standards than any other blogger/ website/journalist. And you need to post dissenting but polite opinions that you may not agree with. That is the mark of open-mindedness. I hope lessons have been learned and changes will be implemented.
Hopefully this whole unfortunate saga will be a blessing in disguise, to lift up the level of colive and all the chabad news outlets to where our Rabbonim would like them to be
it takes a lot of courage to say what you’ve said. Please, from now on,be more discerning about whom you let editorialize about tzneus, mosdos etc. Hamaven yaven.
You have a tremendous zchus and achrayus at Collive. The zchus of bringing the Rebbe’s message to thousands and the zchus of following the directives of our Rabbonim will bring you and your entire family much Brocho v’hatzlacha! And it’s nice to see how seriously you recognize the achrayus you’ve been charged with.
Look how a sincere apology can generate so many positive comments…
THANK YOU in advance for bringing us the good news about Moshiach!
I personally know u and have always liked and admired you . This letter does know suprise me . You are a mentch and always were .
Admirer from Aussi 😍
I shed a tear when I read this! Honestly one of my biggest problem with our large community is the lack of regard to what our rebbeim and Halacha have to say or be on a matter. One example is the mezuzah video and articles that were posted. I felt very strongly that a das Torah was needed and was not used ( for all I know) This is a great step in the right direction!
Col helped me find my 1st job when I came back from the IDF.
GO COL 🙂
The worldwide Chabad community doesn’t appreciate being censored, when disagreeing with you, or even more so, your contributors. Left or right. If you are truly an honest news provider, you need to allow comments, that even disagree. My comments, often aren’t posted for that very reason. You can’t have it both ways. Trust and transparency, breeds, trust and loyalty. Thank you
This is a good start. Now, we will be watching how you follow through going forward.
May others learn from you to own up to their mistakes honestly and forthrightly.
This is an inspiration to all that are going down a certain path; if it’s not right, you can always turn on a dime and change. I hope in the future, photos will be vetted for propriety, both for clothing and behavior. v’dal.
Wow To admit once mistakes take a lot of courage and inner strength.
Looking forward to hearing who is on the vaad harbonim
I love you mica and loved your story but I will never stop loving mic drop and how it inspired me and still does.
So happy to read this post that was sent on family chat. What a Kidush Hashem. Taking responsibility, turning the tide. I’m sure this wasn’t an easy decision. You could have responded the other way and gained a lot of support too. Seeing only the positive feedback being posted with sooo many responses is beautiful and I hope encouraging for you.
‘Na aseh ve nishma’ comes to mind. You took that plunge. May you see much nachas from this. We look forward to seeing and hearing lots of others having your courage.
May you celebrate more special Birthdays with Simcha.
So honest and human. Be passionate and when your wrong own it. There is a lot to learn from both your former position and your apology. Most people don’t have the guts to take a position and then know when to back off.
Yasharkoach
Mica, you did a very courageous and brave thing here. Too bad all this had to happen and you were stuck in the middle. I admired your MicDrop talk as very, very brave!! And I appreciate the fact that you are always dressed tzniously and attractively – you set a good example for all women. Let’s hope more of our Chabad women and girls will look to your tznius dressing and emulate you in this way. Hatzlacha! Moshiach NOW!
Amazing. now THIS is courageous!
May you have continued success, yiddishe chassidishe nachas from your entire family.
I too stopped visiting the website when because the whole micdrop story happened which was coming after other issues that made me uncomfortable (i.e. immodest women, promoting of events that are not up to true lubavitch standards etc.)
I was sent this article and I’m so impressed by your honesty, humility and strength. Looking forward to coming back to the website when it will have the full oversight of rabbonim that you said it will have.
Hatzlacha raba and chazak v’ematz!
Now THIS is what is called a true Chassidish approach.
Let every other blogger, reporter, tweeter, and website learn from what true hachna’ah is.
Kol Hakovod! You will be a light – a “lampternchik” to the other sites out there that have unfortunately strayed from the true chassidish path and hopefully you will bez”H benefit begashmius and ruchnius.
Hatzlacha!
Good job Mrs sofer! One small request: Can we please make col a site that the Rebbe would be proud of? There are ways and ways of reporting things… Let’s do it the right way. So many of my friends stopped going on col due to all the scandals lately, even comparing it to some unmentionable things, and I feel that a website with Chabad in its name should keeps its standards on par with Halacha and the Rebbe’s horaos. I’m very impressed about the public apology, and it must have taken a lot of courage. However, I would really… Read more »
I don’t normally write comments on COL but Mica, I want you to know how proud I am of you, as an honest, upright individual, and as a chossid of the Rebbe. Thank you for standing up for the Rebbe’s honor even at the expense of your own.
I am also personally glad I can reclaim my confidence in COL to be a source of emes and shalom.
Continued and strengthened hatzlacha.
I haven’t felt this great about clicking on . It brings me happiness now.
Thank you for taking this stand. After the letters that went viral from the Rabbonim- I promised to stop going on collive.com
please please don’t allow any comments that are loshan hora. It has destroyed families!!!
Thank you for taking this route.
This is wonderful.
Thank you for having the courage to accept criticism. Let others learn that it proper criticism is to be valued and taken seriously.
I too refrained from going on COL for the past week but was alerted to this letter and I’m glad to be back. It’s not about whether we ever stumble, but how we react to it and pick ourselves up afterward that counts. While I think we all agree that COL is not an “official chabad website,” in the final analysis it doesn’t really make that much of a difference, unlike secular media, we Jews have a Torah\halacha, and we chabad have a Rebbe who gave many guidelines and directives. Whether it is fair or not, we are looked at… Read more »
I think this is my first COLlive comment ever, but I just want to say I am impressed beyond by your bravery, courage and humility to write this letter!!! May you be an example for all of us!
As a young teenage shlucha i loved looking at collive
it was my connection to crown heights, news in EY and fellow shluchim (and sometimes music entertainment )
it was a safe place to go online
When i moved to CH and needed a job, i looked on collive
Now married with one baby i use my limited free time to go on collive and catch up in those same areas
Thank you for always being there and always looking to grow proffesionally and in chassidishkeit
After reading letters that went around from the rabbonim , i was done with collive , but this changes things … if and i say if colllive is really going to be under the guidance of a vaad from no on , i’ll remain a loyal reader 😀
you are simply amazing!!
a true woman of valor!!!
you just proved how incredible you are !!
I would lile to see COL following a clear policy from Rabbonim on how women must be dressed in order for their photo to go up.
Your story was amazing to hear, and your letter was even beyond. This is what Crown Heights needs is Achdus!!!
Moshiach Now!!
Waiting to hear the “agreen upon policies, guidlines and procedures.” from now onwards
Waiting to hear the list of Rabonim with oversight over COLlive
As to which rabbonims guidelines to follow –
A great time to for the community and col to use this opportunity to get all rabbonim together on this and be a grt start for future involvements by the rabbonim.
Especially as the rebbe says, what happens in crown heights effects the rest of the world, and would enhance the coming of moshiach now!
A desire long overdue,
With much success!
this is the mica that i know, welcome back. Boruch Hashem, I am really happy that chabad will be represented the way it should! m’chayil el chayil
Does this mean you are going to censor comments
and only good things about Chabad will be reported?
Wow!!
Good morning collive. Never too late to wake up.
The power and siyata dishmaya given to Rabonim when they are united is awesome (in the literal sense of the word). May the Rabonim continue to be united and dispense guidance with wisdom. May this saga help us all turn a page and longer treat Chabad as a pop-chasidus.
I’m moved to see this commitment and idealism in Lubavitch!
After davening each morning; COL is the first website I open each weekday. Your site has always been the best one to turn to online. Kol hakovod to you for your apology. You are a real “mentch”! Spoken with such honesty and regret! I applaud you! Your website is the best and iyH now will become even better!!! Make COL great; a website that everyone will be happy to view!!! Best wishes to you and your dear family for much good health, happiness, parnassah and naches!
I hope you are successful in creating your dream. You are truly inspiring
Your courage, humility and honesty, virtues that can not be overlooked or deemed secondary to the currently more lauded and celebrated qualities of vulnerability and outspokenness.
I’m so impressed by your integrity and your public display of it. This is far braver a move than overcoming stage fright but Bh you have done both! עלי והצליחי!
Thank you for having the courage to apologize publicly and want to improve. IMHO that takes way more courage than speaking on MicDrop, for both men and women. I applaud your desire to listen to the voice of Torah, as we Jews have done for thousands of years, and not be embarassed from the “scoffers”. I give you a blessing to continue to be an example of how frum Jews (and even Lubavitchers – gasp!) listen to Rabbanim and do our utmost, each in our own way, to try to bring positivity, unity and Kavod Hatorah to both Corwn Heights… Read more »
As a long time reader of COL, it is evident that this profound Letter penned by Mica was truly Devorim Hayotzim Min Halev and has and will continue to touch, inspire and teach countless readers of COL, myself included, the greatness of having the responsibility to muster one’s strength of character and pride to openly declare their respect and admiration for those who uphold the laws, teachings and guidelines of Torah and Chasiddus along with the directives of in accordance with esteemed & beloved Rabbeim. Kol hakovod to you, Mica. Sholom, emes and tzedek are expressed in your letter. It is acts of courage, and strength displayed in this effort that will bring achdus paving the way for Moshiach’s arrival. Looking forward to the “new and approved” COL.
Please don’t use collive for police statistics reasons , no reporting on crime , the world is scared ! We don’t have any more crime than any neighborhood , this place has כאן צוה ה׳ את הברכה as a secure and safe neighborhood . Stop reporting crime it accomplished nothing , only simchas , ask rabbinic opinion if I am right .
You are an incredible person I admire your courage for stepping forward. You are a true inspiration
Always did and always will love col!!!
Micah this brought tears to my eyes. This took far more courage than microp and I’m so impressed . We all make mistakes , after all we are human. Its takes real courage to publically admit and apologize. Kol hakavod. Wishing you much continued success !
Just because there are some very LOUD people who disparage yiddishkeit and the rabbonim online, I am thrilled and relieved to see that in reality there are so many people in our community who have stood up to defend the honor of the rabbonim.
Thank you Mrs. Mica Soffer for having the courage to self- reflect! THIS is what makes you stand out from the herd.
May this be the start of a general reversal that will return the honor of people with good values!
Wow wow wow
Heartfelt and magnificent
Mica it takes real courage to make a public statement like this. thanks for all that you do for lubavitch world wide. keep up your amazing holy work
Now I can feel comfortable opening up stories on COL and encouraging my children to do the same.
Moshiach now now now now!!!
I’m not a frequent poster, but pop in to collive from time to time. All I can say is wow. Kol hakavod, Mica. In honor of your courage and desire to do what’s right, may Hashem bentsh you with the clarity to keep inspiring the masses with news that is uplifting and Torah-true! Very impressed!!
And I second #76… women pictured on COL must be dressed according to Chabad Rabbonim’s guidelines of Tznius.
Thanks for that courage
Wow! I’m SO moved!
I have to commend you taht you had the courage to apologize publicly, it takes a big person to do so and really cool is where everyone goes to hear what’s new in chabad and May it continue to grow in more positive ways then ever. It’s a great source of news and mica you do a great job.
Mica, I wish I had the strength to apologize in public like this. Be proud of yourself.
I also want to add, that of all of the speakers at the Mic Drop that I watched, you stuck out as a tznius, eidel woman.
Really appreciate the strong role models we are given.
For your courage. WOW WOW WOW
I look forward to having proper Rabbinical guidance for COLlive. It will raise your standard even more so. Kudos for your courage
Thank you for acknowledging the need to put col back on course representing the authentic Lubavitch.

I would like to say that for a person like you with all the pressure and opportunity to say you don’t need to own up or you have good reasons and backing from big people and couldn’t care less and you still stand up strong and showed what matters in truth in the deepest of your heart to make the Rebbe proud can possibly credit you a real mouth piece for Lubavitch worldwide and bring a Kiddush Shem Lubavitch and Rebbe to the masses! Can’t wait to see how this progresses in the Rebbe’s footsteps! Like you say yourself that… Read more »
Very brave to post this publicly! This shows a tremendous beautiful example for many to follow!
Appreciate your well meaning article. May you continue to post wonderful things. Just no close ups of woman and teen girls at all these outdoor, family events etc. I wouldn’t ban all woman’s faces but only a general one of crowd.
This is one of the few posts I have seen on this website in which every single comment is positive!
It is posts like this that bring out the best in people.
I salute you for being brave and doing the right thing. Adherence to our rabonim is of utmost importance. In 2019 it’s not as clear to everyone. You carry a big megaphone with this site. It is therefore great and appreciated that whatever mistakes might have been made are corrected and publicized. Thank you. And much hatzlocho.
WOW – such an apology is hard to give in private, let alone as a public figure to such a large audience! Tremendous kudos to you and there is no doubt that this will have an incredible impact on your life + the world around you for the better.
Why don’t we start by a basic guideline; such as, any woman pictured on COL must be dressed according to Chabad Rabbonim guidelines of Tznius
כל הכבוד לאתר החשוב וכל המתעסקים והמתעסקות בזה
You are a very truthful person, people like you are very seldom to be found. G-D Bless you with all the best Begashmiyus Uberuchniyus. Hatzlocho Raboh Umuflogo in everything.
May we be zoche to all work together
I asked somemeone , what makes you a lubavitchers? He answered, ” I go on col every day”. Ha ha ha…
YOU are bringing Moshiach!!
ממך יראו ויעשו
You Did the Right Thing! Now please please, for the sake of the Chinuch of our children, the Chinuch of the entire Chabad and for the sake of the name and Kovod Lubavitch make the right changes that the Rabonim request. Yo may lose some readership, but you will pick up MANY readers, and a silent majority that have been very upset and hurt by a lot of the content that has been going up online. You will see, that if you follow through and do the right thing, you will have SO Hatzlacha and Bracha in all that you… Read more »
I hope that from now on, you will respect ALL the Rabonim of the Shechuno, and not just the one you offended recently. The other 2 , that you usually ignore, should be given equal respect, and their rulings followed.
Ty. For the past present and future.
Col will always be our go to site.
One word: WOW!
CH salutes you.
LOVE COL!
Would love to hear details about this vaad.
Very strong women you are mrs sofer!
A real role model
People all over read your stuff and in their minds it represents Chabad- take this seriously
you continue to amaze me.
Keep up your amazing work!
Real. Humble. Courageous. Mature. Inspiring.
Of this the Rebbe would be proud!
Now let’s live up to our name as Chabad-Lubavitch and accept, love and forgive unconditionally, as we do so well to those on the outside. (E.G the teens coming to C.H this Shabbos.)
Whew.what a relief. This slippery slope was so painful to see. It hurts to see the boundaries being pushed further and further. This takes alot of courage. I’m so proud of you.
U’myad Hen Nigalin
Kol Hakovod. I know this wasn’t an easy thing to do but you did the right thing and I commend you for the strength and maturity to do so. Wishing you much success m’chayil el choyil.
Admiring your courage to face your fears and also brave to admit mistakes-takes great strength. This in addition to running this global site-yashar koach!
Amazing letter!!!
This shows the greatness of the publisher.
I wish the comunity can learn from you
Kol hakavod!! I’m impressed at the attitude and readiness to change
All is forgiven.. thank you so much for posting this
Who are these Rabbonim?
I greatly appreciate your courage to come out with this apology letter
We should learn a lesson from you!!!
Thank you for everything you do for this community!
May you have much success.
Mica this is beautifully written, and We can taste the sincerity in this post. Thank you for writing this apology!
…Is to recognize your error and apologize. Halevai many others would do the same, the world would be a better place.
Col Hakavod!
Major respect for the ability to get up and say that you made a mistake.
I think there should also be a decrease in psychology related articles that seek to provide help instead of Torah based help
A blog site filled with positive and constructive content. One which does not subtly portray Yiddishkeit in a disparaging light. One on which no anonymous letters are allowed in order to prevent mistaken identities. One that aims to be a beacon of light in a darkening social climate. If this really can be done sincerely and resolutely despite the knowledge that a certain audience base may be forgone.. then this would truly be good news.
Kol hakavod to you
I respect you even more now!!
Hatzlacha in everything you do!!
BS”D
That took guts and I am sure this is tough on all fronts… I support your statement and believe this will be good for all. You have a big voice and a humble and searching heart and soul are more so healthy in any light. May more learn to own what and when we make mistakes and””Publish”” them to those we care for most… Hatzlacha and a gutten Shabbos
your amazing Mica!
This is how evolved mature adults behave and this should be an example to others in our community who may find themselves in a machlokes or receive backlash for something they may have done or are doing. Pause. Take a moment to really consider the other viewpoint, and see if you may have made a mistake.
Kudos Mica- this is way more impressive than being the woman behind collive :)!
BH
Is COL an official Chabad website, or not.
I personally wish you all the Hatzlacha in the world, you are both fine people, but why can’t it be made clear that this is NOT an official arm of the Chabad, or of the Crown Heights community.
If col is indeed a private enterprise, then no one could have any, legitimate, complaints, however if it IS a Chabad/Crown Heights outfit, thenChabad corporate officials, and/or Crown Heights officials must step up and take responsibility.
Adam Provda
PS I wish Mica and Yossi much success in everything.
Looking forward to website that is in tune with Lubavitch ideals!
Thank you!
Kol hakavod!
A public apology earns real admiration, yasher koach.
Mrs.Soffers retraction and apology is highly commendable.
May our Chabad Lubavitch worldwide community continue to grow and thrive until G-d in His mercy sends His righteous Moshiach.
So impressed. It takes a lot to face your mistakes. Good on you!!!!
Thank you for your meaningful and heartfelt apologies.
I’m sure it wasn’t easy to write this.
Thank you for your courage.
impressive that even today someone can still be a real wo mensch!
Will the “Rabonim” also pre-watch music and comedic videos to determine if the content is in line with their directives or at least not racist? (Asking for a “friend”)
Mica
Keep up the great work you are doing

That’s very mature of you
Good for you Mica you sound sincere.
Bravo!
Wishing you now even greater success in the wonderful work you have done and will be doing for all going forward!
That must have taken a lot of courage to write and you are commended for writing this letter, I’m sure it wasn’t easy. I hope that this will lead to a more proactive approach on your part to enhance our community and its values. Hatzlacha and G-d bless
Such a great way of making this right!
Wisest thing col could have done
I am greatly impressed
I have only respect!
This letter shows such strength, humility, and courage!
Thank you for doing the right thing in apologizing for your actions, but I don’t think anyone is responsible for comments besides those who submit them. I would hate to think the comment section would be policed anymore than it already is.
On your honesty and dignity.
I humbly suggest that the site not contain the words Chabad Lubavitch as this makes it sound like an official site, which I’m sure the editor will agree it’s not. Its a grassroots website. I noticed that a “competing” community website has a disclaimer t the above effect on their homepage. This is a good thing. If COL will do that it will win back much support. Thank you.
It takes a big person to apologize
Faithful coller
You have done something amazing! I applaud your humility, and kavod harabonim. You were brave to tell your story on micdrop, but it took even more strength to apologize.
Wishing you continued success! Looking forward to a COL that will literally be the voice of Chabad Lubavitch- making the Rebbe proud!
I’m impressed.
May we all work on ourselves and keep improving.
It’s not easy to own up to one’s mistakes.
Kol hakavod.
Mica you are a very special person to send out a letter like this. It shows your humility, readiness to change for the better and strength of character. Hatzlacha
Micah, we know each other for years, and when I saw your Mic Drop all I thought was, I want to give her a huge hug. I knew that COL was your baby, because we spoke about it. With all the negativity that surrounded the mic drop, you still held yourself to Chabad standards. We as Chabadniks have to remember that to err is human, to be “man enough” to own up to it in such a public manner, that puts you in a league of your own. I am thankful to Hashem that I know you, and consider you… Read more »

Thanks for apologizing and public for your actions!
Hope this will be from now on, a platform in accordance with Chabad shita and the Rebbe.
Hatzlocha
Realy impressed with this letter.
Got my respect back.
Kol hakovod. I respect you for this tremendously. Hatzlacha rabba
The only way this will mean anything is by publicising which Rabbanim COL is consulting with, and who are the Rabbanim on the COL Editorial board
Such courageous woman. BH to want to do the right thing and to say it publicly. Such respect! Tavo eilech bracho!!!! Looking forward to the new, improved and enhanced COLLIVE! Thank you!
Your apology is amazing, you are sooo brave!
ישר כוח!
This is the best thing I’ve ever seen on COL! This is an amazing development! Chazak v’amatz!
We support you, COL! May we only share joyous news!
Mrs Soffer it takes real courage to make a public statement like this. Kudos to you and thanks for all that you do for lubavitch world wide
