This year’s Kinus Hashluchim banquet will be held close to Crown Heights, COLlive has learned.
Chabad Shluchim, rabbis and lay-leaders of Jewish communities from all over the globe attend the Banquet – the largest Jewish gathering in the world, and is the high point of the annual Conference of Shluchim.
After months of waiting for City and State approval, permits were received today to hold the massive event at the Armory on Bedford Avenue between Union and President Streets.
Last year’s banquet took place at Pier 94 in Manhattan. Over 4,000 attended.
“We expect more Shluchim and more guests than ever this year,” said Rabbi Mendel Kotlarsky of Merkos. “Keeping it local will help people save time on travel and busses, and the event can start on time.”
When I was in Kollel you were allowed to go to the kinus for precisely the reasons you give. There was a kollel registration
to no. 27 the rebe says in chai elul 1949 that the bachurim hold the kees of the whole world like the pirchei kehunah vda”l & don’t sho your tipshus gch”t
would u describe 770 before gimel tamuz that way?
it looked the same though obviously much different in quality by the rebbe’s physical presence
nothing to do with a gathering its a zoo
During the current recession there should be a smaller not so lavish banquet.
Siyum Hashas and Rosh Hashana in 770 cannot be compared to the kinus banquet.
There is nothing like the banquet in the Jewish world.
A full course gourmet dinner for rabbis and community leaders? where do you have that?!
We are talking about a high quality evening for people with influence (can you compare a shliach to a bochur in 770? or a frum yid from williamsburg?)
Rabbi moshe kotalrsky, the blessing of the rebbe in 5770, please dont move it out of pier 94, you will certainly gain anash from ch, but you will be losing thousands of te $360.00 paying guests. I for one know that i will not be able to bring my table of ten this year, if it leaves nyc. Please listen to these posts.
to #2, with friends like you we don’t need enemies. your simple words drip with your sinas chinam. for the new year may hashem in his mercy give you a new kinder heart. to #6, what makes the kinus great in everyones eyes is not the location but the quality of the program and the spirit. i’m sure the armory will be made to look at least as nice as the pier and it’s kind of nice for mekuravim to stroll (or march) down the tree lines streets of eastern parkway to get to the armory. as a suggestion, imagine… Read more »
I think it’s funny that the training part of the kinnus is only available for Shluchim and not Bochurim…it’s like saying we don’t allow you to know what you’re doing before you go out only once you’re out there for a while then you can get some training….
In the current Yeshiva system there’s no (or limited) real-life practical day to day Shlichus training…you just learn a little about which cow lung is Kosher…get your Rabbi paper and then you’re ready to deal with community members issues…
good point but you’re being just as small minded…
What about other events, like siyum hashas etc that get’s lots more than 4000 …. (there are other Jewish events besides Chabad even if you don’t know of them)
“”Keeping it local will help people save time on travel and busses, and the event can start on time.”” — I think the most important thing is that this will be keeping the Rebbe’s wishes that events be held in Crown Hights – Kan Tziva Hashem Es Habrocho!
just look at the pictures from rosh hashona in 770
Pier 94 is, at its base, the same as the Armory – a hulk shell. The last Armory try did not adequately address things like sound transmision and echos. At Pier 94 these things were addressed. Hopefuly the lesson has been learned and things will work out well. It certainly is a maaloh that it is close.
is it a nice place?
770 has been kidnapped! for thirteens years already!
there is a live hook up. i watch it every year
there has always been a live broadcast!
not true!! a few years ago they held the kinus in a place like this and it was a disaster!! half of the people left early you couldnt hear anything the place had so much dust nobody had the food and so on!!
That word brings bad dreams to many shluchim…..
Al tistakel bekankan elo bemah seyesh boh.
Who cares what the place looks like or how much it costs, it’s the atmosphere and the actual kinus banquet and what takes place there, that inspires and counts.
I agree with the second half of your comment
sie personally and sie from friends. either bochurim should be allowed to go or their should be some sort of live hook up for them!
what a ugly place the last time they used one of these a few years ago it was the worse kinus ever!! shluchim will bring alot less people here!!! go back to pier 94 at least the outside and inside looked nice and was a place to bring baalei battim!! remember we pay $360 for them
Now the splinter-breakaway group will no longer have a excuse to make their own “Kinnus” in Crown Heights…!
Quite frankly – who cares anyway…?
no its not the homeless shelter.
its called getting things cheap– cheap is the way to go now
Isn’t that place a homeless shelter? i know for sure its no armory any more!!!!!! But hey that place can always use a spiritual uplifting!!!
It makes sense to investigate the outright purchase that place.
Pier 94 was a draw for mekurovim as it was in NYC, this is the worst neighborhood in the ghetto? I hope they did no confirm it. True its closer for Shluchim from Crown Heights, but please a little class,. The banquet in the past were superb, ! Do not ruin a great thing.
and Rabbi Sharfstein who worked with the Governor to get the armory.
where is this place
to arrest those rebellious TZFATIM who literally broke the law and injured poor yidden in the past…. then it’s fine with me. The armory at Bedford is one hulk of a building… it’s awesome and the best place to have it…. ysher koach Rabbi Kotlarsky.
Does that mean there will be tighter security, b/c more bochurim will try to get it?
I think there should OFFICALY be place for the bochurim to come, I can personally testify that it ‘inspires’ bochurim to want to go on shlichus….
