Minnesota State Secretary Steve Simon lit the Menorah at the State Capitol Sunday December 2, the first night of Chanukah.
Rabbi Moshe Feller shared that it was Senator Norm Coleman who arranged for the Menorah to be placed on the grounds of the State Capitol when he was working for the State Attorney General’s Office.
Rabbi Feller continued with prayers wishing Senator Coleman a full and speedy recovery. Rabbi Asher Zeilingold greeted the close to a hundred assembled who braved the frigid weather for the special occasion.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Feller read a letter of greeting and support, sent by US Senator Amy Klobuchar, who couldn’t attend in person.
Rabbi Mayer Rubinfeld, who coordinated the event, assisted the Secretary in kindling the 10 foot Menorah. Chassidic music and dancing followed, Chanukah Doughnuts and cookies were served, as the Mr. Simon distributed chocolate gelt to the children (and some adults…)!
