Speaker of the NYC Council, Speaker Corey Johnson and Council Member and Majority Leader Laurie A. Cumbo, will hold a Town Hall meeting Thursday in Crown Heights.
The event is presented as an opportunity for local residents to “understand how the NYC City Council works,” and learn about “the issues of today and how they affect you and our community.”
“Here is your chance to meet and engage and have your voice heard,” organizers said.
“I am looking forward to having Speaker Corey Johnson join me in the dynamic 35th Council District on Thursday December 13 to hear from residents and business owners,” says New York City Council Majority Leader, Laurie A. Cumbo.
“We will be addressing community concerns, answering questions, and sharing all that the New York City Council is doing for New Yorkers!”
The event, which is open to all, will take place on Thursday, December 13, at 6 PM- 8 PM at Medgar Evers Preparatory High School, 1186 Carroll, crn of Nostrand Avenue and Carroll Street.
All residents of District 35, friends and organizations both locally and beyond, are invited to attend. This will be a place for all voices to bring opportunities and challenges – all topics are welcome.
(I live in Councilmember Eugene’s district.) #4, I know you are just the messenger; not that you are happy or sad about the intentions of these two politicians. If Ms. Cumbo WERE the councilmember from my district, I’d NEVER want for her to rise to higher office. Why? https://collive.com/show_news.rtx?id=27982&hl=Cumbo (“‘Jews Success Triggers Resentment'”) Yes, she supposedly “apologized” for that, but to me it was a total non-apology because her ATTITUDE is unchanged: semantics–“my words did not convey what was in my heart” (!), don’tcha know? https://collive.com/show_news.rtx?id=28017&hl=Cumbo and https://collive.com/show_news.rtx?id=28096&hl=Cumbo THIS IS A COUNCILMEMBER WITH AN attitude problem about a big percentage… Read more »
The new mandates from the Commissioner of Ed (7 hrs of secular study AND all public school mandates, such as “tolerance” courses) would have the effect of forcing everyone who cares one drop about their kids’ chinuch to leave NY. While these are city, not state, officials, they can be effective voices against what amounts to a modern day expulsion (anyone who stays is risking his children, R”L). Ask them to insure that NY and NYC remain viable places for Jews to live, religious Jews who have given so much to society.
It seems to me that this location is very close to the Crown Heights Jewish Community. The meeting is in one of the main Crown Heights institutions at the Southern end of Council District 35. Community Board 9 meetings used to be held at MS 61. This is actually Council Member Eugene ‘s district. CB9 meetings are now mainly at Medgar Evers College.Keep in mind District 35 has 4 neighborhoods and 3 of them are on the other side of Eastern Parkway, including Prospect Heights, Fort Green and Clinton Hill. People coming from these neighborhoods will have much further to… Read more »
If you are a City Council person, and you have a large amount of Jews who are subject of hate crimes, you hold a meeting in the center of the Jewish community, like at MS 61 where the Community Board 9 meetings are. There is no parking by or around Medgar Evans, and it is clearly out of the way for the Jewish community. This reminds me of when the political bosses wanted to decide what to do with the Bedford Armory, they had meetings in the Baptist Church, on Saturdays. Leadership is when you tell your constituents how you… Read more »
This will be a good opportunity to meet your elected officials and hear about a wide range of issues going on and around the community, meet members of the wider Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, and Fort Green communities.
