The upscale Bloomingdale’s department store in White Plains, New York, recently hosted a food presentation by cookbook author and blogger Chanie Apfelbaum.
Some 100 women from around Westchester, Tom’s River, Teaneck and Connecticut attended the food demonstration that was kicked off with a wine tasting and a talk by a representative from Wusthof Knives.
It is clear “how much her fans adore Apfelbaum, when the event sold out within 24 hours,” commented Becky Ginsburg, Marketing and Special Events Manager for Bloomingdale’s White Plains branch.
Apfelbaum showed how to make Israeli couscous arancini with spinach pistachio pesto from her fast-selling cookbook, Millennial Kosher. She then went on to build a cheese board around it, explaining the process on how to build a board.
“Something old, something new, something goat, something blue,” she said, is the basic rule for building a board, referring to aged cheese, fresh cheese, goat cheese and moldy cheese.
“From watching her demonstration in our culinary kitchen, we could understand why – she’s engaging, relatable and unbelievably talented… someone we were honored to have here at the store,” Ginsburg said.
“Plus, behind the scenes, she couldn’t have been more lovely, and the people she attracted here were wonderful as well. We look forward to many more events together!”
Apfelbaum’s demo was filled with tips and tricks for the kosher cook and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the attendees.
When the demo was complete, attendees enjoyed a tasting from an assortment of cheese boards, as well as tasting bites of Israeli couscous arancini with dipping sauces.
