The Maccabees are needed in New York…
Jewish residents of Brooklyn and elsewhere are concerned over the recent rise of unprovoked, random attacks against Jewish people.
They point to the fact that these attacks were not theft related, but rather attacks on the bodies or clothing of individuals who are visibly Jewish.
The most recent ones, according to the Jewish Future Alliance, were:
On Friday night in Williamsburg, a Chasidic man standing outside with his young son was attacked. Police said that the 33 year old man was punched in the back of the head with a closed fist by an unidentified man who uttered a single word: blah. The incident took place at 6:40 PM on Friday night in front of 68 Throop Ave.
Last Sunday, just a block away, on the corner of Throop Avenue and Walton, a young Chasidic boy was randomly punched in the face, knocking him to the ground. The child suffered a fractured nose.
On Saturday morning in Crown Heights at around 6:30am, a Chasidic man was assaulted by two males in front of 728 East New York Ave, between Albany and Troy Avenues as the man was heading to Synagogue. The victim was approached by the perps, who without saying anything, suddenly punched him in the face.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms these type of cowardly attacks on innocent civilians and call on the NYPD to drastically increase police presence throughout the community,” said Crown Heights community activist Yaacov Behrman.
“But instead of hosting another press conference and focusing on whether the word ‘hate crime’ should be attached to these attacks, we ask what is going wrong with Brooklyn that innocents are being beaten in the streets? Is there an atmosphere that is encouraging violence or anti-semitism?! And most importantly, what educational initiatives can we launch in the schools to address the issues of violence and hate?” Behrman said.
The NY Daily News reported that Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.) and other Democrats sent a letter to NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill on Monday asking questions about the increase in anti-Semitic crimes across the city.
Targeted attacks on Jews— including “Kill all Jews” and other messages scrawled in a Brooklyn synagogue, a 9-year-old Hasidic boy being sucker-punched by a stranger and swastikas being spray-painted on the office wall of a Holocaust scholar at Columbia Teachers College — led the collection of politicos to reach out to the city’s top cop, the Daily News reported.
“We commend your individual attitude, leadership and commitment to ensure that such crime will not be tolerated in our city,” the lawmakers write. “Yet, we remain gravely concerned over the possibility of additional local hate crimes targeting New Yorkers because of their ethnicity or religious background.”
On Friday, the NYPD said hate crimes across the city increased, to 322 from 311 last year, with a sharper rise in anti-Semitic incidents — 168 compared with 136 for the same period of time last year. Through November, the task force made 77 arrests vs. 79 over the same period in 2017.

Of course saving ones own life outweighs possible convictions for having defended ones-self, no question. But be aware that, as history in our community has shown, the police here are more eager to pursue and deal harshly with a Jew in our community who defends himself, than they are to pursue the attacker.
For these sick animals. Please clean the streets de blasio.
That very concern is the issue. Jews cannot accept any risks. The fact is that to protect yourself you need to be willing to break the law. The law won’t protect you. Either stand up to yourself regardless, or risk getting beaten further. Beat em and run, like they do. The Italians didnt ask these questions, its our incessant thinking and Cheshbonos, and “what if’s that only we ask, these creatures don’t ask these questions, and by far and large they get away without any issues. We have to start hurting people in a very serious way. If some Jews… Read more »
Of course, though, some people are not an even match for a huge gorilla who lives to destroy what it can (my apologies to the natural gorillas). These perpetrators only take on people who are smaller than themselves. Which is why I believe that we need a more united community that is set up to have groups of people take on a perpetrator as he tries to leave the scene.
Another Basil photo op with so called “ activists and politicians “ that will surely solve everything
So change the laws!!!!!! That is how a democracy works!!!! You vote in people who enact changes to the law. If that fails, then you challenge the law in court. If that fails, then you move (like we did 15 years ago) to somewhere where you can defend yourself without fear of prosecution! The reasons why these events are a non-issue in our current neighborhood, are simply because it is a firmly established fact, that anyone who attempts these shenanigans is more likely to end up with additional cerebral or thoracic ventilation – as well as being a prime candidate… Read more »
Needs to be publicized on mainstream news- Fox is probably the only one with the integrity to publish the truth.
I don’t understand Jews in CH… half are saying how bad it is (duh), half are saying how we need more police, cameras, patrols etc…
How about don’t rely on others to protect you. Only you are your best protector! This is a call to action
Couldn’t have said it better. Unfortunately laws regulating methods of self defense are heavy in NYC and NJ. Nobody wants to be the test subject in a self defense case where their attacker was killed in self defense.
The Jews, particularly in NY, NJ and other bastions of liberal insanity, have continuously proven themselves to be the absolute “lowest hanging fruit”, which are “ripe for the picking” bu the scum of society. Their affinity for always needing to “play the victim”, as the quintessential “defenseless sheep” whom refuse to proactively defend themselves and will only “bleat” incessantly for “protection” from those who honestly couldn’t care less about them, have emboldened the animals in the jungle so, that this way of life has become common place. They have so emasculated themselves, by becoming completely reliant on the “good graces”… Read more »
You get what you vote for. You need neighbor who are not violent. Chinese are a non violent people. They live around Boro park and flatbush and don’t hurt Jews. Landlords around prospect park should move them in instead of Blacks. It’s simple. I’m sure the white hipsters living in black areas are also picked off. It is what it is. There are certain races that are more violent.
Darn…So my Jewish homies are getting pummeled, and the $$$ are going to CH Real Estate Machers who should be spending their own money on their own buildings….
Why isn’t the money from $1 million grant from New York State Homes and Community Renewal going to pay Shmira and Shomrin for more cars and surveillance cameras on my block ?
Forget CHJCC and the “winterization program”- give the $$$ to Shomrim, Shmira and Hotzollah –
Y’all are getting played like a dreydl

Last week, there was an attack on a Bukharian yeshiva student on 108th St around 6 PM, 112th precinct. The boy was in a coma for a few days. The following day, there was another attack on a teshuva student there, not as severe.
And let’s not forget about the Jewish orthodox man that is lying in a hospital bed in queens he was attacked and he is not doing good, It is happening all over not just in Bklyn, if something does not change it is not going to stop, because there are a lot of copy cats out there
In 2016, CHJCC spent about $1.5 million on windows, boilers and other assistance to tenants and homeowners.

Why isn’t money spent on more surveillance cameras on every block rather than money going to commercial real estate landlords ?
They forgot a few videos and I’m sure some things happened that were not recorded
Sorry , but it’s clearly that work is not done at all ….from 322 we need to see 321 arrests and prosecutions …. somehow the system is not fair to Jews who are still in 2019 are victims of anti Semitic attacks in a Free !!!!Counrty
Board of ED needs to change their curriculum because it leads to hateful attackers graduating from public schools,
There are many verbal assaults and threats that are not being reported. Happened to my daughter on subway. Black man started screaming Jew hating words at her. Another black woman on train defended her and they got off. The police basically laughed at her for reporting it….
Don’t kid yourself Yidden…America has always been an antisemitic land – it was just deeply buried…until now. Let’s look after other Yidden, look out for each other, and pay attention to your surroundings. Truth is the US is just “catching up” to other countries.
And so what’s being done about protection, for the safety of the Jewish community?.
he is enticing the black people when this antisemite calls the Jews all kind of derogative names
rather let’s get more protection on the streets and prosecution of these criminals.
Reminds me of the videos of Nazi Germany in the 30s
You elect a democratic governer,a democratic mayor and democratic everything so you will get increased crime. A lot of secular groups like ADL is looking to make Trump responsible because they are extreme leftists and anti Torah.
