When I was in yeshiva in Kfar Chabad in the late 60s early 70s enjoyed talking to him in chassidus. His explanations were very clear and enlightening.

Big maskil!

Unfortunately in Oholei Torah and Bais Rivka in the 70s 80s and 90s this was not the shita.

When Rabbi Fogelman ob’m was on Crown Street this was followed. When he left this was no longer followed.

Reb Moishke was the best Mashpia, he went out of his way to approach every bochur and was a dugmah chayah without the need to act harshly.

Kindness vs Permissiveness

Don’t confuse kindness vs permissiveness. You can be loving and create boundaries at the same time.

I think

that some educators have no idea of how to respond with kindness, because they were not treated with kindness themselves. Or, they did not cause problems and do not understand why someone might misbehave. ( And they react with limited depth to address the problem with kindness). Such educators need explicit examples and scenarios coupled with professional training in the area of appropriate discipline, but not from those who espouse a response of harsh communication!!

Attention hanhalos!!!

If you call your Yeshiva or school chabad, then follow what the rebbe says regarding how to deal with students! “….but I’m our Times kindness is the only way to succeed”

Wow.

I also had a question in my mind about a difficult student today. And was wondering about the right approach to discipline. Thank you for the answer

What a great Mashpia!

I studied in Kfar Chabad and Reb Moshe was the kindest sweetest person there. Always judged the students kindly. I remember once I didn’t come to Morning Chassidus, in the evening Chassidus Seder he called me over and asked me if I’m feeling better. I said that I wasn’t feeling good… He answered that he noticed that I was absent in the morning and since I always keep Seder he assumed that I wasn’t feeling well.

Thank you

I just had a difficult story today and was just short of asking a family to leave our school when I opened COL and read this article and had my answer from the Rebbe to always deal with kindness in education. Thank you
