An Israeli bochur visiting for the month of Tishrei was robbed at gunpoint in Crown Heights.
The incident occurred at approximately 2 am Motzei Shabbos at Hamilton Metz (Lefferts) Park on Lefferts Avenue near Albany Avenue.
The 18-year-old victim and a group of friends, another male and 2 females, were siting around a table next to the park bathroom, when two male blacks wearing hoodies came up behind them a displayed a black firearm, police said.
The perps took the victims’ Galaxy cell phones, a speaker from the table and $600 cash from one of the victim’s pants pocket.
The perps then fled the scene through the soccer field. No injuries were reported.
Police canvassed the area but did not locate the perps, however within the next few hours two other similar robberies were reported in the area, and a perp was arrested in connection with those two.
Police believe there is a strong possibility that it is the same perp, and are working now to connect the two crimes, a police source said.
it is obvious that there is nobody guiding these young people before they come here.Their behavior leaves alot to be desired. Would the Rebbe approve of the way they act.Playing ball outside 770 on R.H. with a gentile. Is this what they came to the USA for?
I’m sorry but no Park is safe from dusk until after dawn. The rashas that committed the crime need to have justice served and everyone needs to get it that it’s not safe at night. Hasn’t been for many, many decades
Jump so quickly to conclusions. Many people come for tishrei that are not temim and lubavitcher meidelach. Could be siblings, but many mekurovim are sent to us for tishrei and as toishvei hashchunah we are supposed to welcome them. This is part of the shlichus of being a crown heightser- shluchim go out and teach yidden about the emes and about chassidus and the Rebbe and then they send them to CH to see living examples of chassidisher yidden. People need to wake up here a take this responsibility seriously. We have to take dugma chaya to a whole new… Read more »
For all you know, the boys and girls weren’t even sitting together! Maybe the facts aren’t straight! Perhaps the boys came separately from the girls and then once the robbery took place, got nervous and stuck together, being that girls can get nervous being out alone so late? There are endless possibilities for what could have happened, but it seems that the critics’ here have such “kosher” minds, that all they could think of was assume the worst… Please, ladies and gentlemen, do not be the judge, jury, and executioner over that which you don’t even know!
come on be fair. i think the boys and girls just found a quiet secluded place to learn a new maamer that just came out.
Peaceful people had their lives threatened with an illegal gun, and had their belongings stolen. Two horrible crimes were just committed in crown heights. So if you’re in crown heights, THAT should bother you. Why does it matter who they were and what they were doing in a public place and at what time? Did they appoint you as thier mashpia? Advisor? Could have been one family, siblings, cousins… and their sleeping quarters not so comfortable. When a legal and civil crime is committed I think the reaction should be how to catch the perpertrators and prevent them and other… Read more »
The article reports a story that informs of growing trends. It’s subject is of an armed robbery in this community. Apparently it is such a usual occurance that some ignore the the obvious threat to human life and instead ask “what time was it?”
I do not discount the likelihood of the risks and inappropriate actions these victims have taken. I am however disturbed by the rather thoughtless attitude of some observers.
Consider: a gun in the face or teenage promiscuity.
if it’s closed why is there not a gate closing the park from entry. otherwise use police patrols. teens do stupid things. we don’t need to set up an area for problems. we are lucky all those hoodlums wanted was money.
It doesn’t matter why it was boys and girls together and it doesn’t matter why there were in the park at 2 am, fact is they were robbed at gunpoint and I am sure are extremely traumatized. We need to stop judging and stand as a community to fight crime and injustice, period.
obviously the two young ladies were his sisters.
Esp. The parents that stay back in Israel.
Many of our youth don’t grow spiritually from tishrei in NY… unfortunately.
Not judging on this particular story but lots of them come for the wrong reasons. 🙁
Trump admin will send a message to all US cellphones on Thursday to test in alert system to warn public about National securities.
WHY IS EVERYONE JUDGING?? WHAT IF IT WAS HIS COUSIN, SISTER, OR AUNT????? EVERYONE CHILL!! A GUY WAS ROBBED AND WE ARE SO SORRY!!!
It does not matter if the Bochrim were out in the park at 2am nobody has the right to put a knife to you and steal what belongs to you, and nobody knows why they were there,
You got it right
The REBBE clearly said in the sichos from נא i think 2 weeks ago ” we are not to make a cheshbon for others” so for as the #18 puts it all you armchair warriors lol …… let’s just all learn and practice some tru ahavas Yisroel and just maybee we merit our teacher comes out of concealment

I am very confused. What are bochrim doing outside at two am with female girlfriends? Mivtsoim…??
First, we are just before yom kipur and these elitist, locals pick up on one aspect of the story and make it sound as if every guest must go through some kind of neighborhood committee in order to be approved to come For all I know it could have been family members stuck without a key to the place they supposed to sleep or girls who were lost or any other scenario that doesn’t imply any inappropriate behavior Perhaps you, the quick to judge, should find out why the first thing to your mind is I’ll repute… if smut didn’t… Read more »
Absolutely.
As well, chassidus teaches that everything that happens is for a reason and we can take a lesson from every thing we encounter. Now would be an opportune moment to ensure that we are each on our own taking the appropriate measures to keep ourselves safe. Maybe that means being in the right place at the right time.
Only the Ribbono Shel Olam can decide what will happen, and we are so lucky to be able to act as a catalyst for the good when we make a proper vessel to accept it.
You’re doing nothing but alienate an an entire crowd and half a generation by saying such things. Halachically, they were in public, so no yichud issues there, but that’s not my point… By saying such things you’re establishing a status quo of yidden in the shchuna being victimized whether or not you don’t intend to. It’s wrong that such things happen, and we need to set the stage as a community and stand up against being victimized so there’s no need to say “their mistake was being out at night”. That’s one thing the non-Jewish population of ﹰCH has that… Read more »
let shomrim carry and do block patrols so they’re actually good for something
But I thought firearms were illegal in NYC… as if criminals care about the law. NYC really should allow Jews to own and carry, and not be victimized.
BOYS AND GIRLS 2:00 A.M. IN A PARK THAT IS CLOSED…THERE ARE NO REASONS BOCHIRIM AND GIRLS SHOULD COME .THEY SHOULD STAY IN YESHIVA AND LEARN …NOT WAIST A MONTH
2 am?
It’s not fair to put all guests into one box and say this is what they all do. There are many guests who spend their time involved in good things. The rebbe calls them “my guests”. There are plenty of in towners who hang out there too unfortunately. Some ppl tend to gloat at others downfalls.
not fair to generalize. we had 6 bochurim over friday night who spent a whole year chazering tanya and mishnayos baal peh to earn money to come for tishrei. they were fine bochurim full of toichen etc…
Let him track his cellphone
What would you say if it was your child?
I’m not saying that he deserved it…but 2 am in Lefferts Park with 2 girls and $600 cash.
Please remember to donate to Eishel to keep these guests coming.
With two female friends, maybe they do it different in Israel….
Someone has to tell our guests that this is not a safe neighborhood and they must take precautions.
Park closes at dusk not sure why anyone is in the park after hours
2 AM not the smartest place to be hanging out these boys coming in and the girls should get some type of lecture that they’re coming to a zoo and they should not be hanging in certain places at certain hours
What is a young Bochur doing at night in lefferts park with 2 girls . This is very concerning !!
Dinkins days back
All these thousands of Israeli guests are here for the ‘spiritual experience…”
Night patrols are the best prevention.
