Rabbi Boruch Dov Povarsky, Rosh Yeshiva of the large Litvishe Ponevitch Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, Israel, was in the Chassidic village of Kfar Chabad on Tuesday night.
While the Yeshiva was once a bastion of opposition to Chabad, the 86-year-old Rabbi Povarsky kept close contact with Chabad and has been learning the Rebbe‘s teachings on a weekly basis.
The Rosh Yeshiva, a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of the Degel haTorah party, came to participate in the wedding of Daniel Weber of Bnei Brak with Penina Elituv of Beitar Illit.
Rabbi Povarsky has expressed admiration for the kallah’s father, Rabbi Meir Elituv who has written a series of seforim on the Rambam’s Mishneh Torah based on the Rebbe’s teachings.
“I like him and will come to the wedding,” Rabbi Povarsky told his family members in Yiddish this past Sunday after discussing a few questions with Rabbi Elituv.
At the wedding, Rabbi Povarsky was warmly greeted by Kiryat Gat’s Chief Rabbi Moshe Havlin, who is also the Rosh Yeshiva of Chabad in Kiryat Gat, and Rabbi Yochanan Gourarie, Chief Rabbi of Holon.
