For the past 14 years, Chabad of Sunnyvale, under the direction of Rabbi Yisroel and Miriam Hecht, has tirelessly served the Jewish Community of Sunnyvale–the Heart of Silicon Valley.
Silicon Valley is famous for the relentless upwards trend of the real estate market, and trying to buy a permanent facility was always a challenge. Properties are sold in a matter of a few days, for cash and for hundreds of thousands over the asking price. The market has only gotten crazier and a recent sale in Sunnyvale broke the record: a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home was listed at $1.45 million, but before it even officially went on the market, a private buyer paid $2 million in cash.
As renters in such a dynamic real estate market. Chabad has been forced to move from one rental to the next six times in the past fourteen years.
In a remarkable stroke of Hashgacha Pratis, Chabad was given an opportunity to purchase a home that would also serve as a Chabad House and enable the Hecht family to expand their activities. In appreciation for the work of Chabad of Sunnyvale, the sellers provided the property at a significant discount and waited six months to allow Chabad of Sunnyvale to gather a down payment and secure a loan.
The community’s response has been overwhelming. In a few short months, $520,000 has been raised to enable the purchase of the property. And now, Chabad of Sunnyvale has launched a fundraising campaign to raise $80,000 to close on the property and do some critical repairs. With Hashem’s help they have managed to close escrow. With your help the remaining funds will be raised to make the property ready in time for the Yomim Noraim.

They are descendents of R Shloime Zalman Hecht who was very active in Chicago. R Shloime Zalman was a brother of R Avrom Hecht.
The Hecht’s are the real deal — descendants of the great Rabbi Hecht who was the Rov of the Syrian community in New York. Their dedication has touched many lives. So glad to see they will now be able to have an even greater impact.
