A Chabad emissary in Offenbach, Germany, was the victim of a verbal assault on his way to synagogue this past weekend by a group of teenagers.
“They shouted ‘—— Jew’ and ‘Free Palestine’ and other things at me,” Rabbi Menachem Mendel Gurevitch wrote in a post on his Facebook page.
The incident took place Friday afternoon, when Gurevitch was on his way to pray. Gurevitch said he does not hide his Jewish identity, despite increasingly frequent anti-Semitic attacks in Europe.
“Usually, I ignore things like this, but this time I couldn’t, so I decided to try and talk to them. But the more I talked, the more they shouted at me,” he wrote.
This was not the first time Gurevitch has come under attack. Five years ago, he was attacked by a group of teens who started screaming anti-Semitic slurs at him.
“Offenbach is a good city, but anti-Semitism is becoming normalized and standard. I get ‘compliments’ like these often,” he told the local news site Hessenschau.
“My children don’t want to walk with me if I’m wearing a kippah,” he added, saying that his children hide their own kippahs under hats when they are outside, “because they’re scared.”
Because they see so much of it in comments on the internet. When I used to argue on blogs against anti-Semites, other yidden, would ask me why I ‘waste” my time on such things. My answer to them is that those who do not learn fro history, are doomed G-d forbid, to repeat it. When the Nazis were handing out pamphlets and giving speeches in the sidewalks of prewar Germany, their anti-Semitic rantings, were largely unopposed. Now that we have the internet, there are thousands (or more) of videos just on youtube, where such comments go mostly unopposed. Without anyone… Read more »
He wrote that he gets these things all the time, but this group was THE SAME group of kids that did this 5 years ago. They had a whole event then to create unity and education and they all apologized etc. Now five years later they are even worse than before.
The point was that you can preach peace and love from today to tomorrow, make unity events, diversity training, cultural appreciation programs and in the end of the day these people are just like before if not worse.

Hey, Florida. Your smugness is wrong, wrong, wrong. So now, because he’s living in Germany as a Shliach of the Rebbe, he’s supposed accept violence and hate? With all due respect, this is one stupid comment. We all have an obligation to speak out and to be outraged at this despicable violence and hate. We must never, ever accept it. No matter the country. I commend the rabbi. He is doing the Rebbe’s work by speaking out against and violence towards Jews, and to teach them the 7 laws of Noah. We can never, ever accept this. Ever! Good on… Read more »
I’ve been to Germany it’s the Arabs there that are antisemitic
Not the Germans
Such a sad story, but Reb Yid your schlichus is in germany???
what do you expect they change in generation or 2?
we face this stuff here in the USA too in serious ways
Hashem should give you added strength and xtra ammo.
I’ve been punched, and had things yelled at me. “hitler did nothing wrong”, “god bless hitler”, and other things I dare not say. It does change how I feel depending where I am. If I’m in a non-majority Jewish area I feel very conscious of and have a heightened awareness. When I’m in Brooklyn or Monsey I feel noticeably more at ease.
For stopping Muslim immigration. Islamic immigration to Germany is causing anti-Semitism.
Let the Muslims stay in their own Sharia countries.
May the sonei Yisroel either do Teshuva 100% or expire from this world.
And may Hashem watch over each and every Yid wherever they may be bgashmius and bruchnius and may it be in revealed ways and with revealed blessing. Amen!
