Darchai Menachem Yeshiva of Crown Heights marked the culmination of 6 weeks of learning dedicated to the Rebbe last Sunday.
On Chof Beis Shevat, Darchai announced their very first Mishnyaos Be’Al Peh program. The program ran until Yud Alef Nissan and was in honor of the Rebbe’s 116th birthday.
Talmidim were able to earn points by memorizing lines of Mishnayos, Tanya, Siddur and topics from the MBP Handbook (a booklet with general Jewish knowledge, courtesy of Rabbi Sholom Heidingsfeld of Cheder Menachem of Los Angeles).
The program’s database (courtesy of Rabbi Dovid Zirkind of Baalpeh.org) managed the constant flow of information and emailed parents regularly on their son(s) progress. In Yeshiva, a beautiful MBP board was updated regularly, giving talmidim a visual update on their progress.
A catalog with over 200 seforim (courtesy of CGI Florida) allowed talmidim to choose their prize, based on their final point total.
On Sunday, the 28th of Iyar, family members joined the Yeshiva’s faculty in celebrating the Yeshiva’s gift to the Rebbe and their talmidim’s achievements with a grand award ceremony. These achievements include: 3 Perakim Tanya and 631 lines of Tanya, 2 Perakim Mishnyaos, 61 Mishnas and 391 lines of Mishnayos. Overall, a total of 8,910 lines of Torah were gifted to the Rebbe – not bad for a first year!
Rabbi Menachem Vail, principal, welcomed everyone, and Dean Rabbi Eyal Bension shared Divrei Bracha and congratulated the talmidim for their achievements – a first step toward even greater achievements in their limud HaTorah.
A moment was taken to recognize Reb Yossi Hershkop and his wife of Urgent Care-Kamhin Health Center of Crown Heights for being the “Tomchei DeOiraysa – Zevulun Partnership” and co-sponsoring the day’s event.
Following a video showing talmidim presenting their gift of MBP to the Rebbe, the top 3 talmidim were called up: 1st place Mendel Spritzer (from Rabbi Sarue’s Kita Vov), 2nd Place Matti Meer (from Rabbi Akerman’s Kita Gimmel) and 3rd place Mendel Hoffinger (from Rabbi Sarue’s 6th grade).
Each talmid was then called up, one at a time, to receive their seforim while a multimedia presentation highlighted their achievements. Fathers and grandfathers were invited to the stage to take a photo taken by Yossi Forster of 7th grade.
As everyone was dismissed every talmid was handed a treat – Shavuos chocolate – sponsored by the Abraham family of Flatbush, NY.
A special thank you to everyone who helped make the day’s event the success that it was: the Yeshiva’s administration and faculty, Rabbis Fitche Benshimon, Chony Milecki, Avigdor Zeitlin, Yossi Teleshevsky, Yaakov Sebbag, Abba Wolosow, Mendy Weiss and Dovid Mayteles.
The Yeshiva wishes everyone much nachas and hope our gift has given the Rebbe much-deserved nachas. May what the Midrash says, “אין כל הגלויות מתכנסות אלא בזכות המשניות” come to fruition, with the coming of Moshiach, now!
