New year, old problems.
A frum Jewish woman was attacked while walking westbound on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights on Monday, making it the first hate crime since the new Jewish year of 5778.
The woman, 62 years of age, passed by the 1014 Eastern Parkway apartment building, between Troy and Schenectady Avenues, when she was approached by another woman.
The passerby used an expletive followed by the word “Jew” and then proceeded to snatch the wig off the Jewish woman’s head, which is worn in accordance with the Jewish laws of modesty.
The NYPD were called to the scene. The victim wasn’t able to identify the perpetrator of a crime.
COLlive was told that the crime is being treated as a possible bias crime and will be investigated by the Hate Crime Task Force.
I’m pretty sure the sheitel bit is worse then the name calling or anything else. So bizzare and really infuriating that she knew exactly what a sheitel was, and snatched it off. Dysfunctional. And can’t believe this is something that happened more then once (as seen from comment above).
Immediately! I hope the woman is ok and not suffering after shock!

Keeping the rest of us unaware about these things, only helps the criminals.

Our women and the elderly are beaten on the CH streets. What are we waiting for? who can protect us? Only we ourselves. We should start educating our boys self-defense in Yeshivas.
As a bochur I feel bad for the women and children in CH , it’s very cowardly of these ppl ! They would never approach me or a group that I’m with and say such a thing !! We’re Jewish but if it starts going on like this we really gotta stand up for ourselves!!
If this happened in the UK, the VICTIM would be prosecuted. That happened to my husband when he was beaten up in a hate crime, & it cost us a fortune to hire a lawyer.
In UK you would just be given a crime number, if you even managed to report it.
Guess they׳re not sure. Are they sure it’s a crime? Because I’m not sure they’re going to make any effort to catch the possible perpetrator. They don’t seem to make the effort unless it’s worth it to them.
B”H the sheitel landed inches away from the platform edge so I was able to retrieve it. It was winter, so I was able to throw my coat over my head in the mean time. It’s important to be aware and look out for these occurrences. If people in this community would react faster and more forcefully the perpetrators might think again before acting
Not everything should be told
Anyone who walks the streets especially past troy or any other block that far from kingston should be carrying a gun or at least mace to protect themselves. As soon as these few thugs see that they cannot get away with this stuff it will stop quickly.

There’s only hate crimes against one denomination in today’s America.
We need more police protection
