New York City has begun changing the signs on Eastern Parkway on the blocks near Kingston Ave to reduce Alternate Side Parking Restrictions.
The new restrictions will be similar to other residential streets in Crown Heights where parking is prohibited 1½ hours on each side for two days per week, down from the current three days.
The first of the new signs were placed on the South side of Eastern Parkway from Brooklyn Avenue to Kingston and Kingston to Albany. The old signs read No Parking 11:00AM to 12:30PM TUES FRI SAT.
Chanina Sperlin, who worked closely with the Mayor’s Office to advocate for the change, praised the move. “No longer will guests who come to the neighborhood for Shabbos need to be concerned about a ticket waiting on their car after Shabbos,” he said. Rabbi Sperlin thanked Mayor Bill deBlasio for recognizing the importance of accommodating the community.
He also expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office, Marco Carrion and to the Senior Liaison, Pinny Ringel for coordinating the change.
The difference will be felt especially on Rosh Hashana and Succos, when residents will be able to leave their cars on both sides of the Parkway for the entire three days of Yom Tov and Shabbos without fear of being summonsed.
What about the rest of us on EP? From Nostrand to Utica? On the north side as well? Two blocks of change means almost nothing… But it looks good for the politicians!

While I am thankful to Mayor Bill Deblasio for finally doing something about this. Keep in mind that it is an election year and the other mayoral candidate Nicole Malliotakis has threatened to do something about the parking situation in the city and flow of traffic for both cars and public transport. Competition gets things done for the population.

As if cleaning the kerbs even twice a week made a cent of difference to the rats and mice plaguing the city
I dont live in CH but i visit often and lets just say you should ask for more street cleaning, the streets in CH is filthy.

No more driving around half hour before the zman to find parking whenever I come in for shabbos!!

The old way, after 9:30 am you can park all day.
Now, Friday after 12:30 you can park until Monday 11am…..
