Vague Outcome to Election

A hearing Wednesday on the validity of the elections to the Vaad Hakohol of Crown Heights has just left things in a gray area. Administrative Judge for Civil Matters Sylvia O. Hinds-Radix did not disqualify the elections, but set a trial date in the next 60 days. Full Story

i vote poltorak because he respects himself, and went to study for a good job and a good future for his kids, we need young responsible people to be in charge and as far as i’m concerned he’s the only guy under 40 in the current and former VH.

Classic! COMMENT OF THE YEAR!!

As Far as Eli’s clothing: I love it!

to all of you who say poltorak is 'fashion':
June 5, 2009 3:33 am

we dont need fashion. we need chassidic. i agree that he looks amish. all crown heights kids are now going to look up to a model of chassidishkeit. and what do they see? straw hat, 3 colored jacket, shirt and tie, shleikes, and a thing in the lapel. im glad at least chanina is on board, he is a good role model of dress. black hat and jacket, light shirt and tie. a gutte model
polterak please, for the sake of all of us, dress chassidish.

POLTERAK IS A FASHION ICON
June 5, 2009 2:30 am

I voted for Polterak purely on his dress style

Love it

Polterak at least dress like achosid
June 5, 2009 2:21 am

If u want 2 represent Chabad, then u have 2 dress like a Chosid. Our youth r looking 2 see what makes a leader. och’n vay.

Chabad DEMANDS at least a black hat. we r chassidim!

June 5, 2009 1:52 am

yanky as a besi shmuel member i can tell you we all stand behind you, we do agreee we need elections but dont think the elections we had was fair. instead of fighting in court why not just make new elections for VH & Gabaim and we will back you support you and get out and vote, then let them take us to court and say our election was fraud!! the court will always say you need elections so lets make elections set a date for gimmel tammuz, we will have new elections!!

Warning
June 5, 2009 1:47 am

Going to court might open up a can of worms that was not intended. Vhamaskil Yovin.
I hope everything is thought out before running to court.

VOTE IS OVER!!! Stop this Mkhlokes. Why so many dollars spent in courts (moreover in Goyish courts)? They do not know what to do with their money when there are more important projects to invest in?

whats wrong with that? you had the chance to vote yes or no! there is many tshuvos regarding elections of Rabbonim. One asked by the chasam sofer where explains the way they used to elect from few candidates was by voting yes or no for the first candidate then the same way for the second one and third. Actually by voting this way you give a chance to every one to come and express their will. When Moishe Rubashkin was asked why don’t you make the yes or no choice by his ‘Rabbonim’ election so everyone can come and vote… Read more »

by the way I’m the writer of 26 and as you can see I wrote Rabbi Osdoba. The din is that a Rov that is a mesarev ledin and ignores a moro deasro is not consider a Rov. The Alter Rebbe paskns that it is a mitzvo libzoisoy and the Shulchon oruch brings a cherem of 150 Rabbonim including Rabeinu Tam and Rashbam against Rabbonim like the ones you demand from me to respect. And the chasam sofer says that they put themselves in the cherem. The fact remains: That the Rov that goes against the clear instruction of the… Read more »

What are you so happy about? The chilul hashem that a Rov can sue his own kehilo in secular courts? Is that what you are proud of? This is not a 3rd paty going to court with a heter, dont kid yourself. THE ROV HIMSELF IS THE ACTUAL PLAINTIFF RACHMONO LITZLAN! Every one knows that the names of the Plaintiffs on the court papers are just frontin for the Rov himself, so that he can protect his own family assets etc! This is an outrage that the whole Community should be condeming! Whether you voted or not should not make… Read more »

the straw hat

June 4, 2009 5:46 pm

Just so that you cool down from your outrage and shock of how 924 people defied a psak din from a rov. You forgot 2 factors 1) the Rebbes psak which supersedes any rovs psak
2) another Rov affirmed the right to vote in the form of yehudo veoid likro.
Now, maybe you can sleep better tonight.

It seems you cant distinguish between iraq and america. Rabbi shwei had everuy right to oppose an election that has to do with the Beis din. rabbo Ozdoba has no right to intervene in the elections foer Vaad Hakohol, since he has no business mixing into the civic affairs of the Community. Besides the purely logical difference between the 2 circumstances, there happens to be a clear directive from the rebbe about not interfering in these electiobns. Sorry for the so called double standarsd you just created. In addition, that is not the only reason why those elections were a… Read more »

The fact the you omit the title Rabbi when talking about the other rabbonim and make sure to write it when you mention Rabbi Schwei shows how low and corrupt you and your friends are.

The fact remains: 924 publicly embarrassed a rabbi

It does not matter if he had the ‘right’ to say what he did or not, you set a terrible example to your children.

Today you ignore Rabbi Osdoba, tomorrow your child ignores Rabbi Schwei.

And then cry righteously ‘how are children don’t respect rabbonim’

no dimyon – in the elections for vaad hakohol any Rov is forbiden to mix in as per the Rebbes clear directive and ruach hakodesh (nogea leosid). Regarding Rabbonim elections the Rebbe clearly says in the sicha that candidates for Rabbonim have to be approved by Rabbonim and not askonim.

the difference between the two elections is HALOCHO! according to Halocho EVERY rov on the Bais Din has to agree with adding Rabbimin. however according to halocho the bais din has no right to mix in to the community affairs i.e. Vaad Hakohol, and can not cancel election! (see Ksav Yad from the Rebbe on this topic) therefore when Rabbi Shwai Shlit”a said no to adding Rabboinim to the Bais Din, it is his right! you may not agree BUT THAT IS HALOCHO! however Rabbi asdobo Shlit”a did NOT have the right to mix in to the election for Vaad!… Read more »

Kop Doktar's Two State Solution
June 4, 2009 3:37 pm

The Road Map to peace in Crown Heights calls for a Two State Solution. The first resolution is that each side recognizes the other’s right to exist. Acts of terror will be denounced. No new forced enteries to settle into offices, and a time table to evacuate present settlements. Second stage is to divide the steets and avenues into independant states for each party. Third stage is to internationalize 770 and declare it a open to all nations. In the interm, a dividing line will allocate the west bank of the shul to the Talibans. the northern heights and the… Read more »

This is so funny, I can’t stop thinking how ironic all this is. For years, all these people were running around saying “the Rabbonim this, the Rabbonim that.” There even was a special committee in charge of Kvod HaRabbonim. You can’t imagine how happy they were when the Rebbe called Rabbi Marlow (and Rabbis Osdoba and Heller) “abir s’babirim.” You guys ran around with the “Rabbonim” to any and everything available and how shocked you were when the Rebbe did not let the CH Bais Din to call itself the Chabad-Lubavitch Bais Din but only the neighborhoods. And now that… Read more »

to # 11 - your are fake too
June 4, 2009 2:49 pm

The reason you say the elections of Rabbi Segal were “fake” is based on that fact the Rabbi Schwei was against them and Rabbi Osdoba supported.

For the same reason I say that these elections for Vaad Hakohol are fake because Rabbi Osdoba was against them unlike Rabbi Schwei.

Man, you guys are such double-standard hypocrites who are using rabbis only when they match your interests.

by the fake segal election (that went on for a week!!! and wend house to house!!!) there was only 907 valid votes (the rest were blanks)
if segal steps down on the basis that there wasn’t a majority, only then can you ask these guys to step down.
until then these guys are in!

Chanina Sperlin:
June 4, 2009 2:31 pm

The hearing in the future has nothing to do with now.
According to the bylaws, the term of the old directors ends after the election. The new directors run the show.

After there is a hearing and only if the judge decides that the election was improper, then he has to decide what happens then – not necessarily putting back the old guys. That will take many months.

I am pleased with the court’s decision denying Shmuel Plotkin & Yanky Sufrin’s Petition to confirm a so-called P’sak forbidding the elections. I look forward to any examination of the propriety of the election process. The new Va’ad is firmly in control of the CHJCC and is conducting business as usual. Former Va’ad member Plotkin has been denied injunctive relief by both the Supreme Court and the Appellate Division on several occasions. I urge him and Dr. Harvey Lang to respect the will of the voters and the courts’ orders and to cooperate with the new Va’ad in smoothing the… Read more »

June 4, 2009 12:36 pm

the hearing concerned a motion made by Rubashkin’s lawyers asking for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the new Vaad HaKohol. They were trying to prevent them from supervising the workers at the Jewish Community Council offices and controlling the financial accounts. They argued that the psak din of R. Osdoba telling people not to vote should be considered an arbitration agreement that could be enforced by the Court. The Judge denied this motion noting that the elections have already taken place and the psak din is no longer relevant. Rubashkin’s lawyers then argued that the psak din should invalidate… Read more »
