Some 832 people voted Sunday in the controversial elections in Crown Heights, COLlive has learned.
Although met with opposition, we managed to view the ballot machine counters at the three voting booths.
At 8:02pm the Kingston-Montgomery ballot had 235, at 8:09pm downstairs 770 had 471 and at 8:15pm Carroll-Schenectady had 126.
This is considered a relatively high turn-out due to the fact that the senior Rabbi Avraham Osdoba opposed the process (in contrast to Rabbi Yaakov Schwei who supported).
There are an approximate 2200 eligible voters for the neighborhood’s Vaad Hakohol and Jewish Community Council. Past elections have counted some 1300 votes.
Still, the numbers remain in question, as members of the Osdoba camp say they have evidence of major fraud.
“It ain’t over until it has been adjudicated in the supreme court,” Yankie Sufrin, Chairman of the Ntzigim group who opposed the elections organized by a second Ntzigim group headed by Yisroel Best, said.
While the elections were said to be monitored by Honest Ballot Association (HBA), a resident told COLlive:
“I spoke to the guy manning the booth in 770. He told me that he had nothing to do with deciding who is eligible to vote; for all he knew, people could have voted twice, for he would not recognize them or know the difference. All he manned was the actual machines.”
The election results are pending the June 3 hearing.

770 is an international Shul. Definitely chasidim and shluchim from around the world should have a right to vote for gaboim.
OK, so I voted in 770 @ 11:43. Then @ 3:57 I voted on Kingston. It was too hot so I didn’t walk to Schenectady, but my 23 year old son did @ 6:09. Some of my candidates won. Yippee!
B”H This election was really saw the people speaking. There was no pressure TO vote, no favors being called to pull you into the voting booth, like by the rabbonim elections. It took only one day to bring out over 80% of the average electorate of Crown Heights to render a resounding call to those who are listening, (and to those who are not). This was a referendum on what the man on the street thinks about Moshe Rubashkin’s mandate, (a mandate which was over at least a year and a half ago.) From the field of the candidates, look… Read more »
GET A REAL JOB!
polterak should win just for the suspenders. i would also appreciate if COL could have a full time papparazzi devoted just to him to follow him around. the outfits are more interesting than most of the news.
u get to see your siblings backs on collive?!hey goldstein girls, look in synce there 🙂
shluchim belong to Rebbe’s organization, but not to Vaad Hakohol and Jewish Community Council
The Vaad Hakohol is supposed to decide practical things about physical and monetary decisions which apply to Crown Heights Residents. Shluchim are great guys but they after all dont live in CH
Happens to be that many in CH dont vote for political reasons ever since GImmel Tammuz – and even before then.
The Rabonim Election (which was supported by Rabbi Osdoba and opposed by Rabbi Schwei) has a little over 900 votes after voting for a full week. Last Vaad Hakohol elections had 1210 votes. So 924 doesn’t really lag behind.
to # 4 Do you really have the facts streight? How many people showed up in PAST elections for similar offices? its very easy to throw out number from the (pupik). the issue is v very simple: compare todays turnout with all past elections and compare numbers!!! and by the way, if not for the blistering sharp letter issued right before shabbos by one of the Rabbonim – hundreds more would have come out to vote – they want to vote just they are afraid of going against… (by the way, if the letter its written that this elections is… Read more »
Interestingly, before you reported 845 – chabadinfo was reporting that there was 1200 before 7pm.
now they changed the article and are reporting 800;
Read more »
The shluchim that are listed on chabad.org are not all that exist – there are about as much more not listed for known reasons. Are you sure they are not valid shluchim of the Rebbe? It would be way too much responsibility to say that.
In any case, the list of candidates was supposed to represent the entire spectrum – however those on the other side are pressing that the election at this time is not valid and therefore not participating.
“I wonder which camp would deny this idea?”
Well, that camp would be the Rebbe’s camp, who instituted this whole system! (Besides for it just being intuitive.)
It’s funny how you disparage the vast majority of the voting community. you seem like those elites that believe that only they understand the REAL way things should be – but what could we do that the world is full of peasants that just don’t understand REAL LIFE. please, get a life. very respectful, smart, chasidishe etc. people voted today. this is a VERY high turnout for a Crown Hights elections (judging from past elections for the Vaad). Just because you don’t like it – don’t dear to make it sound that its a small bunch of lunatics – look… Read more »
This is all mendel hendels plan of taking over lubavitch, one mosed at a time, instead of taking it over he only makes machlokos by making 2 of everything, enough is enough we must put a stop to him and his gang and throw them out of CH, if they cant have achdus and get along with the people the rebbe put in place they need be pushed out of ch!!
832? I think thats the answer, if out of 2500 men who can vote only 832 show up to vote that means most of CH do not agree with the elections!! i dont see how they can take office
This community has been infiltrated by misnagdim who wear kapotas, actually learn the Rebbe’s sichos and maamarimbut who are totally clueless about what Chassidus Chabad is all about. This in addition to the people who underwent an operation so that their head is placed backwards on their shoulders. They walk forward and look backwards and visa versa, and of course, their thinking is completely “farkrumt.”.
If Shluchim of the Rebbe voted, this entire mokery would end. Shluchim work 24/7 to fulfill the Rebbe’s will. Why not give each Shliach a vote? They never left Crown Heights, they are attached to CH by their Shlichus. I wonder which camp would deny this idea?
832?? the polling stations looked like ghost towns!!
