A mother of five from Crown Heights received a new lease on life when a Munkacs Chossid from Boro Park donated a kidney to her.
Chaim Elazar was inspired to donate a kidney when his brother did so four years ago. He is a Munkacs’er chossid from Boro Park and father of one. His enthusiasm for this mitzvah was enviable.
The recipient, Sharon Sabbagh, is a mother of five from Crown Heights in Brooklyn. Her children wished to donate but were unable to. She was nearing to have to go on dialysis and we are very happy that this transplant can be preemptive. She will now IY”H receive a second chance at life due to Chaim Elazar’s amazing selfless act.
“B”H, kidney transplants have a great success rate. However, there needs to be Siyata Dishmaya in order to be successful,” says the Renewal organization, who facilitated the match.
Please take a moment to say tehillim for the success of the transplant and both donor and recipients’ recoveries.
Donor: Chaim Elazar ben Esther Fradel
Recipient: Sara Malka bas Chana
Mrs. Sabbagh is a wonderful and sweet person, with one of the warmest souls.
Sorry to hear you are going through this! Our prayers are with you both. May you both have a speedy recovery.
NICE
It is a sweet dream but doesn’t work like that. Tribal loyalty is unique to the Jewish people. An Irishman, for example, assimilates into US culture and doesn’t give a hoot about problems in Ireland. A jew whose family hasn’t settled in Eretz Yisroel for a dozen plus centuries, still is fully emotionally invested. Like Gilad Shalit, one hostage, and American Jewry was torn fore years. Do you think An American Irishman gives a hoot about the challenges in Ireland?
coming from a family that someone got a kidney I can tell you this, there isn’t such pain like watching a family member diminish and his body starting to fail one thing at a time, and by us just as this story an amazing man with tremendous courage came and said HERE I’ll cut out a piece of me so you can live!!! These people are malachim from shamayim and I’m jealous of the part in olam Haba besides the extreme satisfaction of knowing that a person will walk his kids down to there chupah and watch there grand kids… Read more »
Renewal is actually a new model that is unique and being looked by other ethnic communities. The idea of targeting donations to your own community is not how organ donations have worked in the past, There is a national registry and you put your name on the list and you get when it’s your turn. The reason this was implemented was for ethical reasons, so the rich don’t get ahead of the poor etc. Thus paying for organs is illegal in the usa. The problem is too many people die waiting. Renewal basically says we are going to find donations… Read more »
i was recently in ch and overheard a young mother make a negative comment about a chassidishe looking man from Williamsburg “why do they need to come to crown heights? – as it happens to be this chassidishe man had just given a ride to a ch patient coming home from nyu, let’s remember to be accepting of all yidden- including frum yidden, not only when we know they did something amazing for some one in our community.
True. But when 25 percent of altruistic kidney donations worldwide is given by frum community, you know we are per capita donating many multitudes of times above that of gentile community. That doesn’t diminish how wonderful many gentile communities and individuals are.
@#27
Call renewal for the yidden vs goyim kidney donation stats
You will be astounded
I’m always amazed at the selflessness of someone who donates an internal organ, risking his own life, to help a stranger. I don’t have that level.
BTW, Some posters here make it sound this is a jewish phenomena (“mi keamcha…), but that’s just no so, as such donations happen throughout the world and across all religions. It takes a certain type of person to do this, but that type person is not only found in the jewish fold.
He should be an example for many!
