On Thursday at approximately 5:45 pm, a Jewish woman walking on Eastern Parkway near Rogers Avenue was assaulted by a group of six females.
The group approached her, and one of them punched her in the face while screaming anti-Semitic slurs.
Police and Shmira were called, and many police officers and volunteers responded to the location.
After receiving a description of the perpetrators, volunteers began canvassing the area, while the victim went with Police officers into a police car to search for the group.
After a quick search, Shmira members noticed a group matching the description given on Troy Avenue near Lincoln Place and notified Police.
The police brought the victim and she was able to positively identify the attacker, who was placed under arrest by officers from the 77th Pct.
In the event of an emergency always call Crown Heights Shmira at 718-221-0303 24/7 and 911.
I refer you to comment 37.
We need to bring back the JDL to make sure this stuff stops happening. They punch one of us, we sent 10 of them to the hospital. The only thing an animal understands is pain and punishment.
My main point being divisions and lack of interactions dont help. Can parents, teachers, or anyone teach their kids openness towards others and the benefits of forming those bonds when they might not have experienced those benefits themselves?
I would never suggest that individuals like these attackers be given a pass. I simply do not agree with following the road of their mentality by painting many of my neighbors with a broad brush. I cannot guess as to what the home life of these people were like. However I hesitate to blame the public school system’s lack of civics classes, not just because I am a life-long public school kid, but also because I think the main cure for prejudice tends to be familiarity- whether through literature or (preferably) direct interaction. I’ve lived my life in this neighborhood… Read more »
The Jewish community of C.H., for the most part, is aware that we have levelheaded black and/or non- Jewish neighbors such as yourself who live in this beloved neighborhood with us, and we appreciate you. Having said that, I’m not ready to give a pass to kids who have been taught to act out their hatred, regardless of how and why they were thus inculcated. I do think something can be done about it on a fundamental level if we set up a serious, ongoing civics curriculum in the public school system, taught by incontrovertibly fine people, to address the… Read more »
I agree with you completely. I apologize for the poor writing. In my comment I didnt mean to imply that someone else’s thoughts cause others to do harmful things. I meant that it is important for us as people to avoid dehumanizing others the way that the attackers dehumanized the woman attacked. Otherwise, in our thoughts at least, can we really see ourselves as better than them?
Thanks for writing. You make excellent points and share a perspective that is much needed. Even being black doesn’t protect you from such attacks! I hope and pray for your safety. Yes, lack of dialogue and lack of understanding of can be a big problem and it goes both ways because when anyone in the Jewish community thinks of all non-Jewish black people as in the category of these attackers, that is a big problem, too, because it simply is not true. I agree with you except for the last line about someone else’s mentality leading others to hurt someone.… Read more »
FOCUS ON THE LAST LINE OF #34.
so so so right.
you are so right.
It’s really about being a mentsh!!
decent human behavior towards another is what everyone needs to practice –
the desire to lash out at anyone and everyone because you feel cheated, neglected, etc. will not help ease your ill feelings – if anything they will merely persist and increase.
acts of kindness needs to be publicized more –
let’s make heroes out of the truly good people !!!
First off, im incredibly pleased that the individuals responsible were caught. My heart goes out to the woman who was attacked-i can only imagine her fear. My own mother warned me about similar attacks. She didnt say that my being black would protect me. I doubt it does. Second, if you believe that both black and Jewish members of our communities dont feel threatened, youre mistaken. Our problem has always been the lack of dialogue. Few people have the courage to speak and voice their fears without coming into a conversation ready to blame, instead of listen. Do jewish members… Read more »
They were black. I am shocked! Simply shocked. Were is Obama? Holder? Sharpton?
Where is al Sharpton in all of this? Ofcourse quiet as mouse.
it appears that this incident repeated itself several times by the very same group of girls. if you were a victim, SPEAK UP! call shmira to report your incident. we must not sit idly and continue to be victims.
They should be ashamed of picking on Jewish woman
A young girl sitting on her apt steps jumped up
to grab my sheitel as I was merely walking down
the street with a stroller. A young girl!
along with everything else they should do with them (maximum punishment to get the message across to all their community) they should give them SENSITIVITY TRAINING. which some people need to take for various reasons.
when we had Giuliani, these incidents did not happen, because the word was out on the streets that he would not tolerate it.
Great! Good job ppl.
Just another example of the great relationship between the NYPD and the Crown Heights Shmira. When they work together the area is just safer.
When word gets out we fight back, they might think twice ….
Read the article.
The non-jewish (am I allowed to say black?) community expect us to be timid- what do you expect? When we are not united we have no strength. Among the many ways that we compromise unity in our community, the following is a strange phenomenon I’ve noticed: Some Jewish home owners are so desperate to stay on the good side of their black neighbors, if the non-Jewish neighbors ‘make conversation’ by having something bad to say about a Jew who supposedly ‘did something bad’ although they can’t substantiate it, or even about Jews in general, the Jewish person will fall all… Read more »
This is really unsettling. As a young married woman, this makes me feel scared to walk around by myself. Especially because this happened during the day, not at 1AM.
I guess the only thing we can do is keep our eyes open and be aware of our surroundings.
They were all in on it and ALL need to be arrested. If not, the police are showing them that they can get away with it! They all must land in jail for a while, to realize that they did something wrong!
First of all shmira excellent job. The nation problem is that the thugs making trouble are under 18. Their minors. Do to this they feel they can beat and course people.
When they get arrested they are free shortly after and their parents need to pick them up.
This is a growing problem
That is the ONLY language they understand.
This isn’t the first time
and isn’t the last time
I was with a double stroller so I wasn’t able to run as quickly as I would have liked.
Where’s our Jewish Sharpton when he marches over the Verrazano Bridge they should have one side and we should have the other side of the bridge to demonstrate this type of behavior should be addressed like the police commissioner said we’re not going after the minorities were following the statistics of who’s making the problems
We should all learna lesson from that and next time some roudy group tha looks like theyre up to no good passes you by call Shmira> they will keep an eye on them even before they do anything and may be able to PREVENT this type of scenario…
They actually approached me and pretended to hit me in the face! Then kept walking and laughing…
I didn’t give it much thought…
Now I see they were up to no good
This was last night. Where are the perps now? Still in Jail? Going to end up in jail? Highly doubtful. Not in this city. Not with this mayor.
Wow! Shmira is on a roll!
The problem is lack of “Education”
This should be all over the news
Just plain sick behavior, which need to be addressed in a serious and “Community” level.
WERE ARE THE BLACK COMMUNITY LEADER NOW????????
Thank you shmira one after another your catching these perps. You guys are amazing thank you
There is a sign on that wall that says accident injuries cash back . The poor woman should get cash 💰 from the city
Shmira is a blessing to NYC and beyond. Other groups should take note how to utilize community with government.
Great work CH Shmira
sick
I’m SO happy they were caught! ….. The situation of Mass Hatred in the world is SO scary now!
hows she doing?
the black guy in the last pic has to change his shirt. It says “just do it” but his belly shows that he’s doing anything but.
That is horrible how is the lady feeling?
What is going to happened to the attackers are they going to be sent home with a slap on the hand?
This is a hate crime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a Hate crime to me. is she being charged with one?
