Mrs. Rivka Niyazov, a resident of Borough Park who lived with great self-sacrifice in communist Russia, passed away on Thursday, Adar 20, 5774.
She was 83.
Mrs. Niyazov was born in Samarkand, Russia, the daughter of the Chossid R’ Gavriel Niyazov OBM, who was known for his mesiras nefesh.
After her marriage, she and her husband R’ Dovid Niyazov worked to keep Judaism alive with great self-sacrifice in communist Russia.
The Niyazovs maintained a Mikvah in their home, which they allowed people to use in secret. She also fought for her children’s upbringing, bribing doctors and officials to keep her children from being drafted into the army.
In 1978, after receiving a blessing from the Lubavitcher Rebbe, she and her family left Russia and emigrated to the United States.
Residing in Borough Park, Brooklyn, they raised children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are Shomrei Torah and Mitzvos.
She is survived by her husband, R’ Dovid Niyazov, and children Tamara Shamel, Rabbi Shlomo Chai Niyazov – Rov of Lmaan Achai Bucharim and of the Bucharian community in Boro Park, Rachamim Niyazov – Flatbush, Tzivia Yungries, Yair Niyazov, Chana Davidov and Yisroel Niyazov.
She is also survived by her brother, Binyomin Niyazov – Netanya, Israel and sisters Freeda Niyazov – Boro Park and Yafa – Netanya, Israel.
The Levaya will take place Friday, at Shomrei Hadas Chapels in Borough Park at 9:00 am.
Shiva will be at 1261 47th St 2nd floor in Borough Park.
