One Lubavitch chossid is about to give up a sacred possession to cover the costs of his son’s wedding.
One or a few U.S. dollar bills that were given by the Rebbe are being offered to the public by Rabbi Daniel Kaye, Assistant Rabbi at Yeshiva Centre, headquarters of Chabad of Sydney, Australia.
“I have decided –though obviously this is very difficult for me– to raffle off a dollar I received from the Rebbe, with an option to buy one dollar outright for $2,000,” Kaye wrote to COLlive.com in an email asking to publicize the offer.
Rabbi Kaye said the drawing date will be held on Sunday, 1 Adar Sheini 5774 – March 2, 2014. For those opting to purchase a single dollar bill outright, arrangements will be made to securely deliver the original Rebbe dollar anywhere in the world.
“Baruch Hashem my son, Dovid Nochum Kaye is getting married and there are many expenses connected with the wedding, including having to fly my large family to the U.K.” he said.
Bills and coins personally handed by the Rebbe are considered a blessed possession, with the power to perform miracles. Some place it under the pillow of an ill person and in the bed of a newborn.
Most famously, the past President of Poland Lech Walesa carried the dollar he received from the Rebbe in his jacket pocket at all times and attributed to it his rise to political power.
Rabbi Kaye said that donations can be given without participating in the raffle and that he is also accepting donations of air mileage as an alternative to purchasing tickets. All donations are tax deductible.

IT IS PRICELESS, ONE CANNOT PLACE A PRICE ON ANYTHING THAT HAS BEEN TOUCHED BY THE REBBE.
IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW WHEN THE DOLLARS WERE GIVEN ALSO. PERHAPS THERE IS A PHOTO ALSO THAT CAN BE POSTED. SAD THAT SUCH A PERSONAL HOLY ITEM HAS TO BE GIVEN AWAY TO PAY EXPENSES. THE REBBE WOULD BE HORRIFIED THAT IT COME TO THIS. THERE ARE SO MANY WEALTHY PEOPLE IN CHABAD NOT TO MENTION THE OLIGARCHS, CAN THEY NOT GIVE AN INTEREST FREE LOAN TO HELP THIS SHLIACHS PLIGHT????
We know that the most revered person in a Chabad Chossids life is the Rebbe, hence many Chassidim practically gave up their lives as they new it in order to fulfil the Rebbes instructions or even the Rebbes suggestion. Now at this time, 20 years after Gimmel Tammuz where as individuals we have precious little in physical terms – that we can hold in our hands – which we have received from the Rebbe, and that what we do have cannot be expanded or invested to grow as the value is in the particular item received. Can you imagine the… Read more »
The wedding is to take place in just a few weeks, tickets still need to be bought, Mrs, Benjamin of KSCVK has generously offered to help with clothing and very basic items, but we still need to raise the bare minimum for the Chasunah to take place.
Please everyone, go to the PAYPAL site now and give whatever you can.

Well said! Very true! Second that!!
To all of you who have commented. I am from Sydney and still live in sydney. I can’t begin to to tell you who rabbi Kaye is. If this man had a millioon $ he would keep enough for his family and the rest to tzedukah.. He puts so much into the rebbe’s shluchis and made such an impact on so many lives.. To all of you , it’s very nice that he has decided to raffle of rebbe dollars because that’s his only choice really to support and have his sons wedding. To him it’s not easy and it’s… Read more »
Just give the money as tzedakah!!!!
You can feel the pain and worry how this Rabbi is going to pay for his sons wedding, If you have decided to enter for the raffle why not send your donation just for the Mitzvah of helping a fellow Jew and let the Rabbi keep his precious dollar. only Simchas and Hatzlocha
thats EXACTLY what you should have done. You didnt know better, but you did completely the right thing. Kol hakavod:)
Thank you for the opportunity to receive brachos.
he has a few dollars, not just one
Surely there’s a fund that can help.
I look at the weddings bh on this site and everything so lavish, but how can anyone afford it. It looks like every wedding is a millionaires wedding. Everything is so so fabulous but are the people so wealthy, how does anyone get the credit, or have the cash, unless everyone is very wealthy. How do huge families afford yeshiva tuition, medical bills, and food clothes etc and make these functions. It’s very confusing, when we hear of such poverty in the community.
I hope someone can heL this a Rabbi
in 1991, i came to Crown Heights, not knowing alef beit, age 20. I got a dollar in line for the rebbe, and as i parted, i gave it away to tzedaka, partially not sure if that is what i was supposed to do, and partially due to the idea (at the time) not feeling right to me, to give koved to a dollar bill, etc. now, over 20 years passed, and i have become frum, and often felt regret at having given away that dollar, having heard so many miracle stories, and for the most part, not having a… Read more »
Do you know why the Rebbe gave this man his dollars? Maybe it was to help him (the Rebbe’s Shliach) make a Chasunah for his son?
A dollar given by the Rebbe to a shliach inEurope whas auctioned lately for € 27.000,00 aprox. $ 37.000,00
Nowadays to make a wedding costs way more then back then and the standard of a wedding is way higher!! That’s why people go in debt for it.
This rabbi needs money for the basics…,Give all you can!!
You missed the point!! Who cares!! A family has the guys to have to publicly ask for Tzedakah!!! Be quiet and help!!!
Whoa what a hard decision to make!!!!
As a former classmate and chaver with Rabbi Kaye on Shlichus in Morocco in 5743-4744, I have opened a US tax deductible donation page via my organization with a pledge to forward 100% of all donations raised through this site to the Kaye family.
Please make your most generous donation by clicking on the link below:

in response to your post, i remember at a frabregen,in ’80 or ’81,the rebbe said he never heard of a family having to sell their shoes in order to pay to fly to a family chasana.
So a guest walks into a wedding, sees the father of the Kallah, and says, “Mazel tov! Are you the Baal simcha?” The father points to the caterer counting his $$, and says, “no, he’s the Baal simcha – I’m the Baal chov…”
May the $ stretch far and help you really enjoy your simcha…
recently has been doing the same this- they ask people if they would donate a dollar from the Rebbe and then they auction it off, the $ is used to save jewish women and children who are trapped by the arabs from intermarriage.
good luck to this raffle.
i agree with the comment that mentionned that the Rebbe did not approve of the costly amounts of flying in family and other exorbant costs of chasuna, prefering less
If you wanna make money off it enjoy but if someone wants the rebbe go learn a maamer it is the same and better segulah
Hashem should send moshiach now and we won’t have to be in such stress!!!
All the brachos to the Kaye family!!!
It should be at least 5000 to but it!
I have another dollar from the Rebbe, specifically for the goirol, regardless of if a donor purchases a dollar in a single donation option. Besoros Tovois by everyone, Daniel Kaye
What an amazing sacrifice to make. A great father. A great man, a great chossid. The kaye family is a really special beautiful family. Mazal Tov.
you got to do what you got to do!sorry for you that it’s this way,bur maybe this is what the rebbe wanted!only simchos!and bracha vehatzlacha!
That a person must raffle off his rebbe dollar to part for his child’s wedding…
I can tell you from making a weeding it will all come around and everyone has to do what comes to his mind. Am going in the raffle
I hope way more than $2,000 gets raised!!!!!
What if after a few donations of goirel. someone buys the dollar? do all other donations get given back?
i hope someone buys it a Rebbe dollar is a very special thing who ever gets it should be paying more than $2,000
any way mazel tov on the engagement
Perhaps a thought. I wonder…… If one would write into the Rebbe about the heavy expense of flying their family from Aussie to The U.K. If the Rebbe would endorse that expense. I personally know stories where the Rebbe told parents to attend with out the children due to the great expense. I hope the Raffle brings in loads of money.
