El AL’s Flight 082 from Bangkok to Tel Aviv was forced to make a landing in the Eritrean capital of Asmara, due to an engine malfunction.
There were no injuries among the passengers, Israel National News reported.
One of the passengers on the flight was Rabbi Yoram Ulman, spiritual leader of the FREE Russian Jewish community in Sydney and President of the Rabbinical Council of NSW in Australia.
He was one of the 4 Lubavitcher chassidim on board, and being a Shliach, he quickly got to work.
He set up a Tefillin stand and offered Jewish male passengers to do the Mitzvah and daven, which led to lengthy talks about faith and Judaism.
One of the passengers who embraced the opportunity said he was a direct descendant of the “Tzemach Tzedek,” Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn OBM, the third Lubavitcher Rebbe.
Another was Shimi Tavori, a known Israeli singer of Yemenite Jewish origin. After the blessings, he treated the stranded crowd to a concert of Jewish and Israeli songs.
Passengers noted the aura of heart-warming Jewish unity and care shown by the Chabad Rabbi and all those present.
El Al said that “the company considers flight safety of paramount importance and does not compromise on the issue. We do whatever it takes to return the customers home safely and securely.”
Continue giving nachas to the aibishter and rebbe. May we merit the coming of moshiach!
