150 participants from around Atlanta marked Chof Daled Teves, the 200th yartzeit of the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
It was hosted by Chabad of Emory, directed by Shluchim Rabbi Zalman and Miriam Lipskier, with many area Shluchim participating with members of their communities, including Head Shliach Rabbi Yossi New.
The program began with the MC, Rabbi Sender Lustig of the Atlanta Dayanut institute.
Rabbi Michael Broyde, senior member of the Beth Din of America and Head of the Atlanta Dayanut Kollel spoke about the Alter Rebbe’s halachic contribution to the Torah world through the Shulchan Aruch Harav.
Rabbi Yosef Boruch Friedman, Director of Kehos Publications, spoke about the Alter Rebbe’s mystical contribution to Torah through his teachings of Chassidus.
Rabbi Lipskier then began the printing of a new Tanya at Emory University and encouraged the participants to make resolutions to study Tanya.
The guest speaker was Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, the Rebbe’s mazkir and Chariman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch and Machne Israel, Chabad’s educational and social services arms.
He was in Atlanta to celebrate the recent birth of his great-granddaughter who was named after his late wife, Mrs. Devorah Krinsky OBM who passed away over a month ago.
The naming of Devorah New, daughter of Shluchim Rabbi Isser and Chaya Mushka New, took place on Shabbos at Congregation Beth Tefillah, Chabad’s shul in Sandy Springs. Rabbi Krinsky spoke at the kiddush in honor of the baby.
At the farbrengen in Emory, Rabbi Krinsky emphasized the significance of Chof Daled Teves and responded to questions about his 40 years of service with the Rebbe, with participants sticking around until close to 1:00 AM.
While in Georgia, Rabbi Krinksy had the opportunity to tour the facilities of Chabad of Cobb, directed by Rabbi Ephraim and Chanie Silverman and Chabad of Alpharetta, directed by Rabbi Hirshy and Rashi Minkowitz.
He was impressed and inspired by the obvious impact they are having on their communities, COLlive was told.
