Chabad Lubavitch will be celebrating twenty one years in Northwest Connecticut by honoring fellow Shluchim at a gala dinner and silent auction on Sunday June 25, 2017. The annual Community Awards Dinner will take place at the Courtyard by Marriott in Waterbury, Connecticut at 4 pm, and will celebrate over two decades of community service that Chabad Lubavitch has provided to Litchfield County, the Southbury area and the city of Waterbury.
Awards will be presented to fellow Shluchim as well as local Chabad supporters. Rabbi Berel Levitin, long time Shliach serving the Connecticut Russian population for forty years will be recipient of the Community Service Award.
“Twenty seven years ago, when I was sent by the Rebbe as a bochur Shliach to New Haven, we were welcomed by the warm and kind community and amazing Yeshiva staff,” said Rabbi Yosef Eisenbach, director of Chabad of Northwest Connecticut. “However, for all the Shluchim, Rabbi Levitin left an everlasting impression with his tremendous mesiras nefesh for the Rebbe and his mivtzoim and his legendary ahavas Yisroel.”
The Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to Rebbetzin Ariela Kravitsky, shlucha at Chabad Nation in Amherst, Massachusetts where she and her husband work with college students. Ariela was the first Hebrew School student of the Eisenbachs twenty one years ago in a small leased storefront. She continued her Jewish education throughout the years, and today she is the one inspiring and teaching others about Yiddishkeit.
The Maimonides Award will be given to Chad Wable, president of St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut, one of the state’s biggest hospitals. Mr. Wable is involved in many communal charities and is a member of the boards of directors of the Greater Waterbury YMCA and United Way of Greater Waterbury.
Peter Scalzo, an attorney with Gager, Emerson, Rickart, Bower & Scalzo, LLP of Southbury, Connecticut will receive the Israel Award. Aside from his activism in local organizations, The Scalzo family are lovers of Israel and have coordinated and sponsored many missions to the Holy Land.
“We are blessed to have such unique people living in our midst, who really exemplify the meaning of selflessly caring for others,” says Rabbi Joseph I. Eisenbach.
