Some cried and others couldn’t stop smiling at the sight of young, Chassidishe children proudly performing in City Hall.
Yonkers, New York – a city that once boasted one of the largest Jewish populations in the region, is now home to Jewish residents mostly in their 80’s and 90’s.
The young Shluchim of Cheder Yaldei HaShluchim of Yonkers were invited by Mayor Amicone to add sparkle and spirit to the annual Menorah lighting ceremony.
The children told the Chanukah story and sang heartwarming Chanukah melodies. They were personally greeted by the Mayor, who remembered them well from their visit last year.
After getting a personalized tour of City Hall, the children and their families were then invited to the Mayor’s private reception room, where they were treated to delightful Chanukah treats.
Cheder Yaldei HaShluchim is a small school for Shluchim’s children, serving Westchester, Fairfield, and the Bronx. The children travel up to an hour each way to be able to join fellow Shluchim in receiving a wholesome, Chassidishe education. The school is a program of Merkos directed by Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky.
