Sarah Langsam, a Shlucha and mother from Peoria, Illinois, has released a new book of poetry on motherhood.
A celebrated poet and writer, Langsam has released her latest book, “My Dear Child: A Mother’s Poetic Journey,” offering a poignant and deeply personal collection of poems exploring the joys, challenges, and triumphs of motherhood. The book offers a relatable and intimate glimpse into the author’s experiences as a mother.
Through her lyrical and evocative verse, Sarah masterfully captures the complexities of maternal love, from the first tender moments of parenthood to the bittersweet milestones of growth and independence. With unflinching honesty and vulnerability, she shares her own struggles and epiphanies, crafting a narrative that is both universally relatable and uniquely her own.
“Growing up, I never envisioned being a writer,” Langsam told COLlive.com. “That wasn’t my thing! I had a passion for children, teaching and all the excitement that a life on shlichus entailed,” she says.
Living out on Shlichus, in a very small city for over 20 years gave her the opportunity for much quality time with her family, she says.
Langsam developed her passion and honed her skills in poetry by writing songs for her students, which later led to personal invitations for each of her children’s birthday celebrations and events.
“Years later, I suddenly had these splurges of inspiration while raising my children,” she says. “I started writing and sharing them with family, friends and my community. They encouraged me to really go further and publish them so more people could gain the inspiration.”
Now, many years and many poems later, she took their advice and the book “My dear child” was born.
With this book, Langsam has used her passion for creativity and skill of writing to express her gratitude for the blessing of being a mother. This moving poetic tribute to motherhood exhibits the joy and meaning she finds in the day-to-day life of raising her children. She shares her love, depth of understanding, and values, as she shares with the reader the beauty she finds in every stage of a mother’s journey.
Available now at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Many women will find a kindred spirit in Sarah Langsam who shares “A Mother’s Poetic Journey” in her new collection titled My Dear Child.
This is a book about love, devotion, growth, challenge, and ultimately, about transformation through the journey called mothering. It is about how our children raise us and teach us even through their crying (Child Crying), what we can learn about finding happiness (Stickers), about the importance of a mashpia (Shopping for Glasses), and so much more.
Even if you have twelve sisters, you will welcome Sarah’s voice into your conversations. Buy it. Mommies need treats too!

I love everything about this book. The artist design on the cover and carried through the book makes it special to see and hold. The topics from pregnancy to every cherished event of raising a child are beautifully expressed and take me back to the wonderful, cherished memories of being a mother. This would also be a wonderful gift for a new mother, encouraging her to enjoy each moment with lovely reminders of G-d’s creation and gift.
