Thursday evening, eve of 19 Shevat, friends and family of Ramy Zion, who suddenly and tragically passed away last month, came together to mark his Shloshim.
The Seudat Mitzvah took place at the Merkaz Sefarad located at 556 Crown Street, and was emceed by the Rav of the Shul and of the larger Sefardic community in Crown Heights, HaRav Eliezer Avtzon.
The first portion of Parshat Yitro was read with the Moroccan Taamim by Rabbi Avtzon, followed by the learning of the Mishnayot by his sons Menachem Mendel and Yosef Chaim. Rami’s Mashpia, Rav Yisroel Shimon Kalmanson of Hanachos Lehak, taught the first Perek of the letter ר, followed by his close friend and partner, Reb Yehudah Elmakies who did the letter מ, with the final letter י taught by Rav Meir Shushan of the Lincoln Place Shul, where Ramy would come to learn and farbreng on a regular basis.
The Idra Zuta of the Zohar was read by Rav Yaacov Nimni of the Ner Mordechai Shul and Kolel where Rami would also frequent on a regular basis.
Tzedaka pushkas and coins were also placed on all tables for everyone to have the opportunity to give Tzedaka לע”נ.
Divrei Torah, Chizuk and personal stories and lessons from Rami a”h were then given by Rabbi Kalman Weinfeld, Rabbi Meir Shushan, Rabbi Nachman Yosef Twersky, Rabbi Yaacov Nimni, and from his son, Mendy Tzion.
At this point, Rabbi Avtzon invited the Sofer, Rabbi Liron to prepare the writing of the first letters. Rami’s sons, Shlomo, Mendy and Yosef Chaim, and his son in law Rachamim Cohen were invited to write the first letters followed by all the Rabbonim, his Mechutan, Meir Kohen who catered the meal, Rabbi Yehudah Friedman, Rabbi Zalman Zvulonov, Yehudah Elmakies, Rabbi Dovid Raviya, and his many friends.
Following the writing of the letters, a Shiur in Geulah and Moshiach, in which Rami a”h participated every Thursday night, was given by its Magid Shiur, Rabbi Vaisfiche.
Additional Divrei Torah and Chizuk were then given over by Rabbi Benjaminson of the Shul located at 613 East New York, where the Tzion family lives.
