In a recent feature film shown at the Siyum HaRambam, the story of Rabbi Zvi Konikov’s decision to transition from studying one perek of Rambam daily to three perakim was highlighted as a transformative moment for the Chabad community of the Space & Treasure Coasts in Florida.
Rabbi Konikov, motivated by a desire to deepen his own study of Rambam, faced a dilemma regarding leaving his routine of Perek Echod, which had become a staple of his daily practice.
During a weekly Kiddush at his Chabad, Rabbi Konikov shared his decision to upgrade his study regimen but expressed his reluctance to abandon the single-chapter study. It was then that Howard Gans, an engineer from Melbourne, Florida, stepped forward. Inspired by Rabbi Konikov’s dedication, Gans agreed to “take over” the Perek Echod study, ensuring that this foundational practice would not only continue but also thrive within the community.
The film also highlights how Rabbi Konikov’s broader community successes, such as the significant progress in building a Mikvah on the Space Coast, were influenced by the deepened engagement with Rambam’s teachings.
