Despite heckles by anti-Israel protesters, Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Executive Vice President of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad) and Shliach in Washington, DC, delivered a rousing speech at a rally in support of Israel a week ago.
At a rally in Washington’s Farragut Square, just one block from the White House, over 1,000 enthusiastic Israel supporters were addressed by Republican and Democratic members of the House and Senate, diplomats and dignitaries, and leaders of many Jewish organizations, as they vowed to stand with Israel and back its right to defend itself.
The crowd cheered as the speakers called for an end to the barrage of missiles landing in Israel from the terrorist group Hamas. They also strongly repudiated any talk of moral equivalency, noting that Israel goes out of its way to warn Palestinians while Hamas puts its targets where its civilians are.
The rally was sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington along with dozens of Jewish and community organizations.
