In response to the recent barbaric murder of the Rebbe’s Shluchim to Mumbai, the Crown Heights community gathered for a Shabbos Hakhel, uniting for chizuk and inspiration. All local shuls were invited.
Hundreds streamed to Oholei Torah on Eastern Parkway throughout the day for Davening, Farbrengen, and childrens program.
The Chazanim were Rabbi Shneur Zalman Baumgarten and R’ Levi Freundlich.
During Shacharis, the full-to-capacity crowd heard a moving Dvar Torah and words of Chizuk from Rabbi Yossi Jacobson. He spoke about the connection to the Parsha to the recent events and how we as a community can move forward with achdus.
A prominent speaker at the farbrengen was Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch and a very close friend of the Holtzbergs who just returned from the funeral. He spoke passionately about a cheshbon nefesh – there is grief and sadness among us, but the question remains, what are we going to do about it? What change will it effect in our daily life?
Rabbi Yossi Keller, son of Rabbi Keller A”H who used to say havdalah for the Rebbe, recited Havdalah.
After Shabbos the crowd watched a video presentation about the Holtzbergs, HY”D.
Rabbi Moshe Pinson, one of the organizers of the event, told COLlive he never saw such an outpouring of achdus from the entire community. “Many people decided to take upon themselves Hachlatos, all wanted to do something to make a change,” he said. “Many Hachlatos tovos – good resolutions – were taken on throughout the day. Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, at the farbrengen, said he would farbreng in different shuls throughout the neighborhood on shabbosim. A few young men decided to grow their beards, others said they would make sure to finish the tehillim on Shabbos mevorchim.”
Rabbi Yossi Jacobson said, “This is a special moment – a window of opportunity- the rest of the world is looking at Lubavitch to see how we will act in this moment – it is our chance to use it to turn in in the right direction.
We have to continue with this achdus and truly effect change.”
To all those who thought this was a wonderful idea, but seem to think that TRUE achdus is only achieved by getting together in 770. I propose the following: Think of the achdus that occured this shabbos as merely a stepping-stone for the “real thing”. Organize and publicize the next shabbos hakhel in 770. Don’t do this if you are merely out to upstage someone else, or if your post was just a synical remark… But those of you who are serious, those of you who truly desire to see all of us together in THE REBBE’S SHUL, put hearts… Read more »
from what I observed on Shabbos in OT was that Bais Shmuel did this good thing BECAUSE IT MAKES THEM FEEL GOOD.
If they wanted to do the right thing they would have pushed for everyone to go doven in REBBE’S SHUL 770.
The fact is they wanted everyone to know that this was The good hearted members of Basi Shmuel doing it and you know what I would rather doven in the REBBE’S SHUL.
WE NEED CHASIDISHE LEADERSHIP
Stop assuming
It was a most beautiful Shabbos of achdus. The community wants achdus. Maybe some leaders don’t . But only the leaders. So now let’s put achdus to the test. Will the On line school allow children who are not shluchim under merkas join?
thousands who WOULD join in 770? Then explain to us please, how is it that “thousands” in the last 15 years have stopped praying in 770 all l together? explain ti me please why is it that after Gimmul-Tammuz many new shuls had to open up? Show me one event that happened in 770 since Gimmul Tammuz that had “thousands” of Chassidim! stop fooling yourselves. Until we (together) take our heads out of the sand and start dealing with the problem (or better yet, the people causing problems/Machlokis) then we are just chasing our tails (round and round we go).… Read more »
If Beis Shmuel would not join in 770 then they can sit home
There are b”h thousands who WOULD join in 770
Thank you Moshe Pinson for all you do for CH and for the Sheluchim the world over. You are a unsung hero
thank hashem for bringing into this world #12 middle-aged guy it should be added to the article and yes #11 is very right it wouldve gotten hijacked and the shabbos was about achdus not about another opportunity and forum to express our differences
a few years ago a few young men made a big event on Yud-Alef Nissin in honer of the Rebbes Birthday, they made a a video of a Sicho, it was very nice (it was outside 770 in the street) I can say that B”H must of Crown Heights was there. I also remember how the people (who love Achdus sooo much) tried to hijack the event and after the video they snook in to were the video player was and put their propaganda on. Lets not fool ourselves, the people remain the same. Their whole existents is Machlokis. If… Read more »
THEY COULDNT OF MADE IT IN 770 – BECAUSE BIES SHMUEL WOULDNT JOIN – AND THY WOULDNT LET THEIR RABBI JAKE SPEAK – THE WHOLE POINT WAS FOR EVERYON TO COME TO THEIR – THEIR SHUL!
I was there and I can only say thanks thanks and again thanks. About the idea of having a kinus of achdus and hisorerus in 770, everybody should call the lone holdout against allowing R Krinsky and company into 770. The excuse is that if you allow Aguch and Merksos in, some will make a chilul hashem. I think that with a big enough outcry there can be a peaceful kinus in 770 at the end of Shiva. Invite everybody, Rabbis Osdoba, Schwei, Zirkind, Segal, Raitport, Krinsky, Shemtov, Groner, Klein, Simpson, Kotlarsky, all of the above serve as leaders to… Read more »
unfortunately it could not have happened in 770 as people would just have hijacked it for their own agenda. they would not have allowed Rabbi Krinsky or Kotlasky come downstairs at all.
Thanks to the organizers of the event. I was there and was amazed by the amount of people and the success. Thanks for bringing achdus to our community!
This Shabbos was absolutly beautiful. It could not have been done with more class and heart. Thank you, and a big yasher koach to the organizers (Moshe Pinson and crew )of Bais Shmuel for all the efforts put in. Thanx again.
this shabbos was like no other I have ever experienced in my life. it was so special. everything was fit for a king. the achdus was powerful, and everything so beautiful. THANK YOU Bais Shmuel!!!!!
Two thumbs up for those who did this and let the people in Crown Heights learn from these people that few people could make a big difference in CH, if they’d make the effort like these people did. You don’t have to be a shul or a school or anyone who people think is special. You just got to make the effort and CH could be a much better place. Just another example the popular Avos Ubanim that is going on was started by one bucher about 18 years old (he is now married I wont say his name since… Read more »
He was there. It was a truly beautiful event!!!
Moishei Pinson thank you so much for such an uplifting Shabbos in the darkest times.
You truly personafy love for a fellow jew!!
keep up your great work!!!
make room for the new generations of leaders? b”h for the older generation we still know what chasidim are. the new generation has a lot to be desired. where to start? oh, maybe the bais shmuel men can grow beards- that might be a nice beginning. of course there are some who do- but unfortunately the majority touch their beards.
This was a very nice idea, but what would be even better would be to have the davening in 770 that is the rebbes Shul, and the cnter for Chabad B’chlal & CH B’frat!
Imagine everyone in 770 Rabbi krisnky groner klein, yechi & non-yechi all coming and davening as one chabad, that will be TRUE Achdus!!
perfect time for a tznius campaign
I participated this Shabbos in the davening, Farbrengen and ma’ariv. I’ve been a member of CH for over 25 years, and expeirienced the highlights of the Rebbe’s Farbrengen and various uplifting moments, I’ve been both at 22 Shvat and 3 tammuz, I’ve been through thick and thin but I must say that this shabbos, and what Beis Shmuel Accomplished was without a doubt a highlight of achdus, a refreshing moment in a time of darkness. If the older leaders who have their various grudges would just leave the yungeleit to step in, we would look alot better Chazak to you… Read more »
