The Satmar Rebbe, R’ Aaron Teitelbaum recently opened his in Palm Springs winter home for a special visit by Rabbi Reuven Goldstein, Chabad Shliach in Cupertino, California.
Rabbi Goldstein came to give the Satmar Rebbe a private viewing of the Witness to History Collection, a one-of-a-kind traveling museum of ancient books, maps, coins and manuscripts with historic Jewish significance.
Of particular interest to the Satmar Rebbe was a Boston newspaper from 1806 describing Napoleon giving the Jews unprecedented rights under his reign.
The Satmar Rebbe shared the well-known position of the Alter Rebbe and his view regarding Napoleon’s attitude towards the Jewish people at that time. Although their physical needs may improve under Napoleon’s rule, the Jewish people would suffer spiritually.
The Satmar Rebbe and his Rebbetzin were moved to hear how through The Witness to History Exhibit, Jewish people are being inspired to reconnect to their yidddishkeit.
