500,000 Jewish New Year calendars will be distributed by the grocery store giant Safeway in 1,521 of their Safeway and their wholly own subsidiaries in the USA.
Among them are Vons, Pavilions, Dominick’s, Genuardi’s, Carrs, Randalls, Tom Thumb and Pak ‘N Save and in hundreds of synagogues and community centers in the cities they operate.
Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff, Program Director of Chabad Lubavitch Center in Houston, Texas, said he proofread the Judaic content for the calendars.
The calendars will feature a write up about the Torah Day School of Houston, Chabad and the Rebbe’s leadership appears on the inside back cover.
Calendar months with Yomim Tovim will be directed to Chabad.org for more recipes, how-to guides, multimedia and fun for the kids throughout the year.
There is also a plug to “Share the Light!” on FridayLight.org appearing in the candle lighting page.
The artwork will be of a fellow Houstonian, Deborah Rolnick Raichman.
Over 80% of Safeway’s stores are located in Western states.
The greatest concentration of Safeway branches is in California with 521 stores (including the 295 branded as Vons), followed by Washington State with 168 stores and Colorado with 122.
This is not a Chabad calendar. It is Safeway’s calendar with a Chabad influence….
A Chabad calendar must be Kodosh and Kosher, which means without Yom Atzmaus mentionned.
